Today we had lunch at La Vecchia Taverna in Velletri. A family-run restaurant unlike any other these days: a mother and son manage everything with ease, without frills and without the fake theatricality that often ruins the atmosphere. The cuisine is traditional, updated just enough but without losing the soul of authentic flavors. Adequate portions, carefully prepared dishes, no frills and no rush: just genuine attention. A few tables, a quiet atmosphere, simple explanations of the dishes—as it should be. In the dining room are the mother and one of her sons: welcoming, familiar, with that measured confidence that puts you at ease. In the kitchen, the other son creates dishes that exude tradition and arrive at the table beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. It was a pleasant lunch, almost like a step back in time. In an era when only huge, noisy, and impersonal restaurants are proliferating, finding a place like this is a breath of fresh air. It's nice to know that authentic places like this still exist.
