La Taverna Del Sor Okillo In Anagni

The only place in Ciociaria that serves good paella, with reasonable prices and truly excellent ingredients. I recommend booking well in advance given the large crowds. Highly recommended.

I'll start by saying I visited this place for the first time on Saturday evening. The inside space is very small, but fortunately, during the summer, they have a large, very characteristic outdoor space available on the municipal property, nestled in one of the town's main squares near the Town Hall. The culinary experience was decidedly positive. Although I'm not a paella expert, I have to say that the Reale paella in particular left me pleasantly surprised, as did the appetizer, which was truly delicious and very tasty. The sangria, a bit too light, and the service could be improved, although I understand the objective difficulties that can arise in preparing these unique dishes. I will return to try new dishes and to see how everything is going to be better.

Sunday, July 13. We were at this place for paella, and it was better than in Spain. The service from the waiter, Simone, was excellent, and the cook, María, has a great knack for paellas. I will definitely return.

A great discovery, an experience I'll definitely repeat. If you find yourself in Anagni, instead of seeking out traditional cuisine (which can lead to unpleasant surprises), I recommend the excellent Spanish cuisine offered by Taverna del Sor Okillo, and in particular by the owner Simone's Spanish wife (sorry for not mentioning her, but I don't know her name). Besides sampling an unparalleled paella, the kind Simone enlivens the meal with explanations, anecdotes, and Spanish curiosities related to the dishes served. The icing on the cake: their crema catalana. I haven't tried anything this good, not even during a week's vacation in Barcelona. A heartfelt thanks also to Alessandro, Simone's co-worker: his politeness and kindness are disarming.

I wasn't expecting something like this in Anagni. Kudos to all the staff, who were engaging and knowledgeable. The paella was authentic and delicious; even my girlfriend, who lived in Valencia, approved. I also enjoyed the appetizer and dessert. We were a group of 18, so I recommend making a reservation!
