18/12/2024: functional and organized station. clean better, thank you.
17/12/2024: It's a real shame. You are entering ROME and deserve more. Huge, it's very easy to get lost.
The platforms for Rome's internal trains are very far away, and you are warned of this by signs that tell you how many hundreds of meters you have to reach the platform when you are now definitely late for the train. Running is inevitable, in narrow and unclear spaces.
So on the way back, if you have to take a Freccia from a train in Rome, when you see the moving corridor you think "ah, now I'll be smarter".
But the signs indicate various directions, then you discover that you pass in the middle of the tracks, you walk, you walk... you're looking for a sign that says "SHOPS AND BARS" but there are none. The signs are only for those who have to take the metro, or already know which exit to exit from, or already know which platform they will leave from, because there are also no boards with departures.
Luckily I had arrived two hours early.
Having toured the whole station, I finally go out and come back so I can see the shops. I go down to see some more, high potential as a shopping centre, actually a rather dismal place, and even there, not even a board.
It seems that whoever designed all this has NEVER been to an airport.
The porchetta from Ariccia was good, but there wasn't any to take away, and in all the shops I visited not even one sold typical Roman food products to take away. If it exists, it was not reported.
The beautiful motto sui generis "there is no need to leave the station to get a souvenir" evidently meant a souvenir from any shop, certainly not from Rome.
Finally, pay attention to platform 12 and the vending machine with ice creams inside. They steal the money without giving it back.
In short: the intention is good, but it has a LOT to improve.
