We were so happy to have discovered this restaurant—it truly enhanced our stay in Matera. The ambiance was beautiful, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. The food was excellent; we tried our way through the entire menu, from appetizers to main courses and desserts, and each dish was a delight.
We also enjoyed local wines from Matera, perfectly recommended by our attentive waiter. The restaurant’s concept is very interesting, with a self-service element, but it didn’t bother us at all—it actually added to the experience.
Overall, it was a wonderful evening, and we can absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Matera.

The restaurant La Grotta del Gusto in Matera Sassi is a truly exceptional place. It is located in a space carved into the rock, which creates a unique and very authentic atmosphere. The setting is beautiful and original, fitting perfectly into the historical character of the city. The food was excellent, very tasty and well prepared. The overall experience of the visit was great and I definitely recommend this restaurant.

A beautiful, atmospheric place. Self-service, but the staff were helpful, and everything was well-organized. We had pasta; it was delicious, and the portions were ample. We also tried dessert—the tiramisu was fantastic. It's worth a visit, I highly recommend it!

Multi bean soup is simple and totally delicious! The cave space of the restaurant is cleanly light colored but is warm and do inviting. Great prices, more local than touristy.

This restaurant is highly recommended by locals, offering excellent value for money. The service was superb; everyone was incredibly attentive. I had the opportunity to continue my culinary explorations, particularly the cavatelli served with sausage and mushrooms. Cavatelli are a type of pasta found in Puglia.
Then, I succumbed to their signature dessert, which, quite frankly, is indescribable. I'm not usually a fan of Italian desserts (except for tiramisu). But this one, the combination of a soft pastry and pistachio cream, was truly captivating: the tette della monaca.

Everything was really excellent, and the staff were very friendly. It's strange that there's no table service, but it's well organized, so it's not a hassle. I recommend it.

I went to this restaurant for lunch. We had the bread meatballs with tomato sauce as an appetizer, the orecchiette with ragù, and the cavatelli with pezzente sausage and cardoncelli mushrooms. Everything was delicious. There's no cover charge and everyone picks up their own dishes and brings them to their table. Everyone gets to be a waiter for a day.

The place is beautiful and unique. It's self-service, so I didn't rate it. The staff, however, is very kind and attentive. The prices seem a bit high, given that it's self-service.
