Randomly chosen during a walk in Matera, this place is truly excellent.
The dishes are well-studied, experimental, but with real flavours.
The risotto "rice, potatoes and mussels" is excellent and the desserts are superb.

A magnificent experience rather than a dinner, a perfect mix of friendliness and finally top quality dishes in Matera, with historical reinterpretations of Matera cuisine but in a modern key.
Prices are more than fair and a truly enviable wine list!

Welcoming and family environment. Very nice and helpful owners, I have several food allergies and they were really fantastic in making me have dinner peacefully. Quality raw materials and truly balanced and exquisite dishes. Not to mention the selection of wines and how they are presented and served, I was really very positively impressed.

When I return to Matera it is mandatory to stop by for a dinner with traditional but revisited flavours.
The dinner began with an excellent welcome.
I chose the poached egg, highly recommended, and a second course, beef. Having a large cellar at our disposal, the staff recommended an excellent wine, which my partner and I greatly appreciated, despite the different choices of dishes. And finally, clearly the specialty, the cannoli.

If you happen to pass through Matera, you will not only find the Sassi to surprise you, but also this small restaurant in the heart of the historic center. La Gattabuia is located a stone's throw from Sasso Barisano, one of the two oldest districts of the city, and over the years it has been able to innovate without losing identity and tradition, indeed introducing careful and elegant culinary research. Telling you about the dishes would be difficult but also unfair: what is explained does not always increase in value. It must be lived. What I can certainly say is that the presence of Giuseppe and Stefano, the owners, together with Giorgio and Fabrizio, the chefs, and all the staff, creates a family and intimate atmosphere that can only be found in the South. An all-round experience to be relived.

A little overrated: cuisine that tries to be refined, but achieves mediocre results and soulless food. Only the crusted tuna was good. Friendly staff, but prices too high and portions small. Surely there are better places in Matera

il ristorante è situato proprio al centro di Matera.
E' ricavato in un ipogeo in pietra locale ed è composto da vari ambienti allestiti con tavoli eleganti.
Il menu propone pietanze ricercate sia di terra che di mare.
Ci hanno accolto proponendoci un assaggio di pane di grano arso da intingere in un olio dagli aromi ricercati.
Giusto il rapporto qualità-prezzo.
