I went there last Sunday for a family event.
I immediately interfaced with Stefano who welcomed me with the right kindness and who insisted on hosting me before confirming. My wife and I "explored" what the kitchen of La Gattabuia had to offer and then confirmed our event.
I asked the two owners (Stefano and Giuseppe) to pamper my guests and to be accomplices with me in a special day; and so it was: Excellent quality food, dishes served at the right times, kindness, courtesy and professionalism.
My guests spent a pleasant and "tasty" afternoon and therefore I can only recommend this place which fully met my expectations.

A gastronomic experience that remains etched in the memory. La Gattabuia, in the evocative heart of the Sassi di Matera, is a restaurant that combines refinement, authenticity and passion for Lucanian cuisine. Each dish is a journey through the flavors of the territory, revisited with a contemporary but never distorted taste.
The staff is friendly and competent, capable of recommending with grace and precision both the dishes and the excellent selection of wines. The environment is intimate and well-kept, with a warm atmosphere that enhances the charm of the tuff and the soft lights.
Highly recommended the Candele “Selezione Gentile”, Canestrato di Moliterno, pepper and Crusco pepper ketchup, simply exceptional, as well as the Gnummeredde, new potatoes, artichoke cream, cherry gel, anything but banal. The desserts? An unmissable final treat.
La Gattabuia is the ideal place for those looking for authenticity, quality and impeccable service in the heart of the most fascinating city in Italy. We will definitely return on our next visit to Matera.

I can't believe the low average of this restaurant. The photos don't do it justice!
To say it was crazy is an understatement.
Let's start with the location: a former prison (hence the name), entirely in tuff with a microcement floor. The arches and lighting create an intimate, cozy, never noisy atmosphere.
The food, an explosion of flavors. Each dish was carefully prepared and perfectly balanced.
In detail we tasted:
• The courgette flowers, very delicate. The flavor of the flower, the frothy consistency of the ricotta with the aftertaste of zest, the basil reduction: all harmonious.
• The pignata: tasty and balanced lamb, well accompanied by the fondue and the apricot gel (which for my tastes I would have liked in greater quantities, to give more acidity or with pieces of fruit - but as it was already a 9+).
• The orecchiette: the white ragù had an incredible flavor, amplified by the cheese reductions (if I remember correctly, pecorino). A 10+ dish.
We were already full, but everything was so good that we also wanted to try a dessert:
• Mascarpone cream with strawberries and coffee meringue. Perfect balance between sweet, bitter and acidic.
To top it all off, impeccable dining room service. The guys were attentive, very kind and knowledgeable about both the dishes and the wine.
All dishes are also available in a gluten-free version with the pasta cooked perfectly, which is very rare (it is often found overcooked).
I forgot, the bread is homemade.
The photos don't do it justice, and it's hard to trust Google given the increasingly uneven standards. But for us, this was a 10 experience.

Seit 7 Jahren haben wir mehrmals das Restaurant besucht - immer ein pures Vergnügen und eine Küche, die höchster Perfektion entspricht!
"La Pigniata Brasato di agnello" war so fantastisch, dass wir es gleich nochmals bestellt haben.
"Spaghettone selezione gentile ai Frutti di mare" und "Baccalà" waren aussergewöhnlich.
Wenn man einen gelungenen Abend mit unglaublichem lokalem Essen mit einem innovativen Touch haben möchte, kann man hier nicht richtig genug sein - wir kommen wieder!

Siamo stati ad inizio maggio per cen. Bello il ristorante, proprio al centro e ottime le materie prime oltre che il servizio. Abbiamo mangiato piatti della tradizione di matera ma con quel pizzico di innovazione che stimola la curiosità. Lo consiglio sicuramente!
