On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes: 1. Two planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The first tower (the North Tower) was hit at 8:46 a.m. The second tower (the South Tower) was hit at 9:03 a.m. Both towers had collapsed by 10:30 a.m. 2.
