La Carbonara In Roma

We were recommended to try this restaurant specifically by a local so we were very excited to try their carbonara. As others have mentioned, the service leaves much to be desired. We were accustomed to the more transactional type of service that you experience in Italy; this was not that. The service was both aggressive and dismissive. We ordered bread which said on the menu it should come with olive oil, and also requested balsamic vinegar; the bread came dry and they charged us for qty 2 (I’m assuming because we were 2 people? We only wanted 1 serving). I believe our server forgot about these things because she was so aggressively pushing us to order more than what we really wanted which was just the carbonara. We were a little taken aback by how aggressively she was trying to get us to order more so we ordered the caprese just to end the interaction. The caprese salad did taste very nice. The carbonara was good but quite salty and I would say the pasta was a bit firmer than al dente. But, we enjoyed it. The thing that really put a sour note on the dinner was at the end, we got the check and they had a slip of paper asking us to write down how much we wanted to tip. I had experienced, and been told by many locals, that tipping is NOT expected in Italy. So we chose not to write anything because our bill was way higher than we were hoping to pay (€85 for two people to have 1 drink each, pasta, and a caprese salad???) and we were not particularly impressed by the service to merit additional tip. The server came to run our card and pulled out the sheet of paper and ASKED US TO WRITE SOMETHING DOWN ON IT. I was honestly stunned. I am certain that piece of paper wouldn’t have even been in there if we were obviously European. In America I am a generous tipper but it was obvious this restaurant had inflated prices in a touristy location hoping to attract the ignorance of tourists with these practices. I am confident we could have found similar/better quality carbonara for a much lower price point elsewhere in the city and was disappointed in this recommendation.

We had looked forward to eating here again for 10 years! Since we had limited time in Rome, we were at the door when it opened. It was very hot out, and the air conditioning was much appreciated. The waitstaff was very accommodating for 4 sweaty Americans just wanting one course of pasta. We drank 2 bottles of water and a glass of wine each, Carbonara and Cacio é Pepe for dinner. The Carbonara was as good as we remembered! We cleaned our plates! Hopefully not another 10 years before we're back!

This is the original carbonara restaurant. What longer explanation is needed? There are many theories about the origin of pasta called Carbonara, and this restaurant is proudly one of them. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Culinary Arts, this restaurant first began selling carbonara under the name Carbonara, just like the restaurant's name, and this name became known nationwide. The restaurant's main menu is, of course, carbonara. Five years ago, when I first passed through Rome (I didn't know the above story at the time), I stopped by this restaurant for the first time and had a satisfying meal. And today, five years later, I visited again. When I told him it had been 5 years since I came, he showed me around the restaurant. Carbonara was better than 5 years ago. I wanted to make scarpetta with bread for 2 euros. (Conclusion at the end) I don't know when, but whether it's 5 years from now or 10 years from now, I will definitely visit again if I can. But anyway, you have to pay for the bread. 2 euros. There is a service charge. I asked in Italian, but they don't answer anymore.

I ate, or rather, delighted my palate in this typical and historic restaurant on the most beautiful square in Rome. The dishes were spectacular, just like Roman tradition. The owner is very kind and friendly with customers. The dining room staff were also friendly and smiling. And if it gives me so much, surely the kitchen staff will also be the same. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to spend a quiet evening.

Typical Roman restaurant with refined cuisine. The seasonings are just right and the interior setting is very pleasant and chic. A place that deserves to be interested if you want to taste real Roman cuisine!

Exaggerated place, portions are small

I due piatti di tradizione della cucina romana, ovvero la amatriciana e la carbonara, vengono cucinate e presentate in modo impeccabile. Non c'è traccia di unto ,il fondo è denso e saporito, e per finire una cottura al dente che risulta perfetta. Il sapore è eccezionale. Interni del ristorante, ben rifiniti, in maniera elegante. Sulla location non aggiungo nulla, veramente super.
