We have been here two times, easy to walk from the historic village where we had an appartment at the top of the village. Nice pasta, meats and vino della casa, with nice covered terrace. Also nice to eat when you cycle across the cycle road that has been build on old railway track, what a views :-)

La Cantina restaurant is a very traditional place in the town of Morano Calabro, in the province of Cosenza, in Calabria, in southern Italy. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, the location is great and the prices are fair. We had a great lunch, we ate cavatelli and rascatelli with ragù, accompanied by meatballs. The restaurant has a private parking. It is definitely worth it.

12/07/2025: Lobster (lobster) with pasta and tomato sauce, a marvel! As a nutritionist, I asked with minimal oil, which they followed. It is enough to ask and insist, if necessary, when restaurateurs do not always understand why. I sometimes take the time to explain that my diet is carbohydrate-protein but fat-free. Not easy to get this principle to be accepted, in the country of olive oil... It was, however, really succulent. Spices release aromas, which do not require oil. I really licked my ass, according to the established expression. My fingers were full... for a dish at only 25 euros! The (magic) lobster with pasta and tomato, a wonder! As a nutritionist, I asked for it with minimal oil, and they respected the rule. Just ask and insist, if necessary, when restaurateurs don't always understand why. Sometimes I take the trouble to explain that my diet is based on carbohydrates and proteins, but without fats. It is not easy to accept this principle, in the land of olive oil... But it was really succulent. Spices release aromas that do not require oil. I licked my mustache, as they say. I had my fingers covered... for a dish for only 25 euros!

03/08/2025: We had a delightful 2 week stay at Exil di Nuovo. I would love to go back there and just stay forever! Giovanni, Angelo, and the entire Exil family are truly amazing and I miss them terribly since I am back in the USA. The rooms are lovely, very clean, and air conditioned with comfortable beds. There are wonderful amenities such as WiFi, mini fridge, and balcony. The food is absolutely spectacular!! I was so impressed with the freshness and beauty of each plate of food we were served. I definitely had some of the best food of my life while at Exil! The pasta with garlic sauce and chili oil was amazing in its simplicity and there was a roasted chicken dish that had unimaginable depth of flavor! Wow! The grounds at the hotel are beautifully kept; verdant with fruit, herbs, and flowers. The pool and lounge chairs are perfect for a relaxing afternoon! I loved sitting in the shade of the glorious grape vines and olive tree. I’m so sad that I will miss olive harvesting season, which Giovanni taught me, will be in October. Exil di Nuovo is situated a short walk from the beautiful beach and pleasant shops! My daughter was a student at the Fini Dance Studio just a block away during the Summer Dance Festival, and she had such a wonderful time! We were truly blessed to be able to visit Villapiana and to get to stay at the most welcoming place we have ever been, the Exil di Nuovo. I fervently hope to go back there someday. Much love to our friends at Exil and to Villapiana!!
