We ordered a platter of local cured meats and cheeses, all delicious. The owners were truly kind. The atmosphere was welcoming, clean, and comfortable. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area again.

16/11/2025: We dined here in November 2025 and were greeted with great warmth. The menu offered a beautiful selection of dishes, which were described to us by the owner and chef. Her husband expertly assisted us with the wine selection, thanks to a truly excellent wine list. For appetizers, we enjoyed raw meat and poached egg with fondue, both accompanied by extraordinary truffles sourced directly from the region. For first courses, we chose pasta with ragù and pumpkin gnocchi. The portions were very generous. For the fourth course, we were served liver in Moscato. The owner places great importance on regionality and the quality of the products. The truffle was by far the best we tasted in Alba in 2025. The cuisine was excellent, and the service was very friendly and personal; we found the restaurant extremely welcoming. We highly recommend "Il Brutto Anatroccolo" and can't wait to return! We visited in November 2025 and were warmly welcomed. There was a lovely selection of dishes, which was explained to us by the owner and chef. Her husband guided us competently through the impressive wine list and helped us choose the perfect wines. For starters, we had raw meat and poached egg with fondue, both served with outstanding truffles sourced directly from the region. As first courses, we enjoyed pasta with ragù and pumpkin gnocchi. The portions are very generous. As our fourth course, we were served liver in Moscato. The owner puts great emphasis on regionality and the quality of the ingredients. The truffle was by doing the best we had in Alba in 2025. The food was excellent, and the service was incredibly warm and personal. We also found the restaurant very cozy and inviting. We can wholeheartedly recommend “The Ugly Duckling” and are already looking forward to our next visit

Vite Colte

28/09/2025: It may not be Instagrammable, but it has excellent wine and the food is also excellent. Good value. Ideal for a quick stop or lunch.
16/09/2025: We returned to the Langhe for the second time for a tasting at Vite Colte, and inevitably, I can't help but compare it to my first experience at another winery. Unfortunately, overall, this second visit was less convincing. But let's start with the strong points: the facility is truly splendid. The architecture is meticulously designed to guide visitors through the various stages of winemaking. The aesthetics evoke the region, both in its colors and in its references to Piedmontese tradition. The barrel room is undoubtedly the most evocative part and represents the true jewel of the winery. The guide was very kind and knowledgeable, especially regarding the facility and the general winemaking processes. A few questions about the wines currently being produced remained unanswered, but overall the explanation was clear. Perhaps due to the tight schedule, I found the visit a bit rushed: personally, I would have preferred a slower pace and more informal interaction. Moving on to the tasting, unfortunately, I was the biggest disappointment. I had purchased the package on Freedom, which included two Barolos, a Barbaresco, and a Nebbiolo. In reality, we were served a Barolo, a Nebbiolo, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Barbera d'Asti. Furthermore, the explanation of the wines was given all at once, leaving us to taste them on our own, accompanied by a platter of excellent cured meats, cheeses, and breadsticks. A more engaging approach, with a guided tasting step by step, would have made the experience much more interesting. That said, I still recommend visiting Vite Colte: the place is truly worth it and leaves a lasting impression. With a little more attention to the tasting, it could be an unforgettable experience.
