I was passing through this road, and as lunchtime approached, I stopped at a farmhouse. When they saw I was alone, they made excuses not to prepare something for me. Shaking the dirt from under my sandals, I continued on my journey and noticed La Baracca. Attracted both by the parking (there's plenty) and by the atmosphere, which promised typical local food, I stopped. And I must say, I didn't regret it.
For my appetizer, I ordered pallotte cac'e ove, delicious meatless meatballs, typical of Abruzzo cuisine. Truth be told, I'd eaten them before, but never so good and so full of sauce: mouth-watering!
For my first course, I was recommended "chitarrina," spaghetti alla chitarra with red sauce. I must say, the generous portion is just right for those returning from the fields after a morning's work, as in the olden days. In both my case and that of my neighbors, there was nothing left on the plate. Note: the dish was served with a spoon inserted into the dish, one of the three ways etiquette recommended eating spaghetti.
Finally, it was definitely worth making room for the arrosticini, another typical dish of the area. They were also delicious, and served with a touch of "rural class" in a ceramic jug, adding yet another touch of folklore to the entire meal.
To drink: a glass of the ever-present Montepulciano.
