Fantastically good food and excellent service! The food tastes just like you'd expect in Italy, and the young woman and man served us truly excellently. Unobtrusive and skillful. We felt very comfortable and spent our evenings in this charming restaurant from the beginning to the end, enjoying the Sardinian cuisine. Unbeatable value for money. A true gem.

Traveling north from Cagliari, we finally arrived in Sassari, passing through several towns. There were many options in this city, but after reading reviews and photos, I decided on Il Vecchio Mulino, a place I absolutely had to visit. It turned out to be a perfect choice. It was hands-down the most delicious dining experience of my trip. -- 🏡 Space and Atmosphere Stepping inside the restaurant, it feels like a small jazz hall. Records and photos line the walls, and wooden cabinets display certificates of "Slow Wine" and "Osterie d'Italia." A piano and speakers quietly loom in the back. Originally renovated from an old flour mill, the stone walls and wooden beams create a warm atmosphere, while the soft lighting soothes the soul. Jazz events have apparently been held here in the past, and even on quiet nights, the lingering sound of music lingers in the air. The staff are all very gentle and attentive. The gentle gestures and greetings when clearing the plates made me feel like I was in a family-run business, while also experiencing professional service. At the end of the meal, they even gave me a complimentary Myrtle liqueur as an after-dinner drink, and I was deeply touched by this thoughtfulness. The taste instantly relieved my fatigue and warmed me from the inside out. -- 🍝 Dishes We Ate First, we were served two types of pane carasau. One was unglazed, and the other was lightly oiled for a fragrant finish. This difference alone created a completely different aroma and texture, and from the first bite, I knew I was in "authentic Sardinian cuisine." For the appetizer, we had a dish topped with traditional Sardinian eggs. This dish, made with pane carasau, had an exquisite balance of fluffy eggs and sauce. It evoked the simplicity of the region and the careful craftsmanship of the artisans. Next up was Tagliatelle with Wild Boar Ragu (Tagliolini al ragù di cinghiale). This was a masterpiece. Rich yet not heavy, with a hint of wild flavor deep within the sauce and the sweetness of the herbs, and the chewy texture of the handmade pasta. It was so well-made that I would consider returning just for that. The main course was a grilled meat platter (Grigliata mista di carne). Three types of meat: horse, beef, and pork (about six cuts of each cut). All were cooked to perfection, with a stunning contrast of fat and lean flavor. The horse meat in particular had a robust red flavor rarely found in Japan, and with just salt and olive oil it had a surprisingly deep flavor. The beef was fragrant, and the pork was tender and juicy. It was a dish that embodied respect for the ingredients directly on the plate. The stew, Bocconcini di cinghiale al Cannonau (wild boar stewed in red wine), was also exquisite. The meat was stewed until tender, yet still retaining its fibrous texture. The aroma of Cannonau wine and bay leaves envelop the entire dish. It was a truly memorable dish, one I'd like to return to. -- 🍮 Dessert and Wine The Crema Catalana we had last was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside. It was baked to perfection and not too sweet. The small almond pastries (amaretto) that came with it were fragrant and gentle, completing the post-meal feeling of bliss. For wine, we chose a white Vermentino and, for the red, a glass of a softer local variety rather than a Cannonau. Both were so high quality that it was hard to believe they were house wines, and I was also surprised at the reasonable price of 3 euros per glass. --- 🌿 Menu Items I Want to Try Next Time Next time, I'd definitely like to try the following: Stuffed Pasta with Wild Boar Sauce (Wild Fennel and Zucchini Ravioli) Grilled Beef Fillet (Grilled Beef Fillet) Cheese Pastries with Honey (Deep-Fried Cheese Pastries) Sardinian Sweet Ravioli (Sardinian Sweet Ravioli) Fig and Fruit Cream (Fig and Fruit Milk Cream) Each dish is made with carefully selected ingredients and handcrafted techniques. Just looking at the photos makes it easy to imagine the aroma. --- 💬 Overall Review Amidst the calm nightlife of Sassari, it was an unforgettable experience, where music, food, and warmth mingled in harmony. It was a place that went beyond just being delicious; it made me want to return. I was truly fortunate to have come across this restaurant so late in my trip.

A typical restaurant, tucked away among the narrow streets of Sassari's historic center, offers authentic and tasty cuisine with traditional dishes. The culurgiones with wild boar sauce are excellent, and the appetizers are noteworthy! Highly recommended!

A truly lovely place. The food was some of the best we've had in our two weeks in Sardinia. The mixed appetizers were very good. The pasta was something different from the monotonous fare served in most restaurants here. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. Our little daughter was warmly welcomed. The price was absolutely reasonable. Thank you.

Da Pietro - Nuova Gestione

30/09/2025: Dinner with delicious Catalan paella. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend!
28/09/2025: We had the tasting menu - the best value for money. All dishes were very tasty. The appetizer was great. The paella was perfectly seasoned, rich and the portion was large. The Cremamis and Saeda desserts were the perfect ending. We got water and a bottle of wine with the menu. So the price-performance ratio was the best. But don't forget to book in advance!!!!

Villasole Ristorante Pizzeria

10/10/2025: Background music in the restaurant was much too loud, making it difficult to have a conversation. The meat was served lukewarm, almost cold. There were a lot of cats roaming around the restaurant, some even on the tables. The food tasted good, though!
08/10/2025: Service- brilliant can’t fault it. Staff attentive and friendly. Bill- €85 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 glass of wine. A bit pricey compared to other places in Alghero. The food- not that great, not much flavour, we have definitely had better octopus, sea food paella pasta and pizza.
