02/08/2024: It is a small restaurant close to the center of Castelnovoné Monti, simple and clean; but how do you eat it?
I would say well, taking into consideration the price range I would say that what you receive is more than what you spend
(don't increase prices immediately!!)
The dishes are simple, there isn't a lot of choice (which is often a good thing) but all the dishes we tasted were excellent, in particular the pappardelle sauce; impossible not to finish it with the excellent bread. For those with a sweet tooth there is an excellent choice of desserts.
The dining room staff is discreet and prepared.
21/07/2024: A pleasant surprise for me and my partner was dinner in this restaurant located in the beautiful Castelnovo. I have been frequenting the Apennines for almost 50 years as my mother was born in Cerreto and I must say that a restaurant of this type serves like water in the desert, or rather like a good glass!, in the extremely uniform panorama of the gastronomic offer of these parts . Please note that this is not a criticism of tradition, but simply a commendation of the courage for having dared to propose something new and for having created, without fear of contradiction, the best wine list of the entire SS63!
Obviously this doesn't come out of nowhere, given that the restaurant has been on the scene for many years, it has however recently changed location, moving to a slightly more secluded area. It is born, I was saying, from technical skills, culture and study because the depth, originality and skill in explaining the wines of their profound list requires all of this. If you haven't understood, wine is definitely the protagonist and a continuously changing, original and unconventional menu has been built around it.
You won't find the "usual dishes" that are offered everywhere (lasagna, tagliatelle, tortelli...) and if you find them, rest assured that they will be prepared with an original twist.
I was able to appreciate a very well made little guitar on parmesan cream and black truffle which can be further strengthened if a superior quality truffle is added, but this would require a revision of the prices which in this place are crazy! Allow me a quick digression: starters from €3 to €5...and I won't add anything else. The rice (it was more of a risotto) with courgettes and courgette flowers was also interesting. The courgette flowers were barely noticeable.
We then also continued with a good vitello tonnato and closed, I, with a good cheese board that accompanied me to finish the last glass of a 2020 Istrian Malvasia macerated by the Slovenian Čutor. A wine that I found well made, tending towards a citrus fruit which however is not yet oversized, therefore pleasant.
In conclusion, an experience that I found special, certainly improvable perhaps in the greater "boost" that could be given to some dishes, but certainly the wine list, the value for money and the courage deserve praise.
