Packed with locals, Il Sorpasso was a quick respite for the evening. We wanted some wine, meats, and cheese to tide us over before dinner. It was an excellent experience with very knowledgable staff who were patient with us, explaining everything we asked in almost perfect English. Visiting here made me wish I lived locally so I could stop in on another random Wednesday evening!

Popped in after spending all morning at the Vatican. Nice and quiet after the crowds. Had meat and cheese platter and a few drinks. Service was excellent, food just as good. Highly recommend

I liked the place, it was quite crowded and atmospheric. Compliments from the chef. Good service, polite and cheerful waiters. They helped me place an order, offered to try wine and choose. Real Italian cuisine with a soul. We ordered parmesan, pasta with tomatoes, and dessert. We liked everything. I definitely recommend visiting if you are in Rome.

Highly recommending Il Sorpasso. The service was inviting and they found us seats without a reservation. The vibe is chill and it’s a place for foodies—. The selection and quality of meats, cheeses and wines is superb and local. The menu changes weekly; the bread is fresh and the flavors deep and fulfilling. You will not get a random, bland tourist menu, here. It’s hip, tasty and confident in its approach to food and service. Toilets were clean and spacious. The wild ham was truly a delicious experience- aged 30 months.

This was a really lively place. Luckily my spouse and I were able to get a table if we would finish within an hour, which was no problem. The menu was creative and seemed to change almost daily. They served beef heart on a skewer, something we had liked in Peruvian restaurants, so it was unexpected here. They were delicious, as were our other choices. The waiter wasn't warm or friendly, but neither was he rude or indifferent. We passed on the bread, but were charged for it anyway; the waiter then said the charge was for the olive oil we'd ordered for use on other dishes, which seemed sketchy, as if he was going to charge us one way or another. Still, this wouldn't keep us from recommending this out-of-the-ordinary restaurant.
