We enjoyed our visit. Nothing in English. Took 7-minute funicular ride up and back.

The Sanctuary of Montevergine is a truly special place, immersed in nature and tranquility. Here, you'll find a serene and reflective atmosphere, ideal for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and spend a few hours in peace.
Beyond the sanctuary's spiritual significance, the surrounding area offers beautiful landscapes, hiking trails, and picnic areas suitable for families. It's a pleasant place to spend a whole day relaxing, enjoying nature, and sharing moments.
The Montevergine Funicular is also very convenient, making the experience even more evocative and accessible to all.
I recommend it to anyone seeking nature, spirituality, and wonderful views in the heart of Irpinia.

Built 70 years ago
Reviving the Romanesque Revival style, it consists of three naves divided by five arches on either side. At the end of the two side naves are two galleries housing the organ. Construction began in 1952 and was completed in 1960, with the church opening a year later. Inside lies the venerated body of Saint William of Vercelli, founder of Montevergine and patron saint of Irpinia. Of course, attending a Holy Mass, as we did on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, is a must.

Perched atop Mount Partenio, the sanctuary of Montevergine has always been a distinctive place of worship in the Avellino area. The church and monastery are overlooked by the mountain peak, which crowns the place of worship, flanked by the tall white bell tower and the bronze statue dedicated to the founder, Saint William. The original nucleus of the temple was built in the twelfth century, on the foundations of an ancient pagan temple. The monumental complex comprises the old church and the new basilica, the permanent exhibition of nativity scenes, and the Abbey Museum, which houses archaeological finds, liturgical objects, vestments, and other works of art. An archway leads to the entrance of the old sanctuary and the courtyard, where a balustrade offers a panoramic view of the Avellino valley. There, a wide staircase evokes the image of pilgrims ascending on their knees as supplicants. Finally, noteworthy is the room displaying the numerous votive offerings donated by the faithful for graces received.

Although inaccessible due to a landslide, the sanctuary of Montevergine is a very beautiful and spiritually inspiring louis.

A monastery of particular spiritual value, where you can attend a well-celebrated mass and discover historical relics linked to the lives of believers, whose experience of faith is associated with events considered miraculous. A place that offers meditation, silence, and significant testimonies of lived faith. An ideal place to admire the breathtaking mountain landscapes typical of the Irpinia Apennines, particularly the Partenio massif. The area is characterized by vast beech forests, high-altitude clearings, and open views overlooking the surrounding valleys, offering authentic and evocative glimpses of the Apennine landscape.
Excellent food in the surrounding areas.
