The Broletto, from “brolo” which means courtyard, was originally a fenced court intended for the exchange of goods and public functions in the heart of the city, where, after the Peace of Constance in 1183, the Municipality of Novara, as well as other cities in the Po Valley, built the buildings for assemblies and the administration of justice…
Now you can enjoy a quiet aperitif inside the courtyard, immersed in a corner of history, excellent hospitality and appetizers, to try

I ate the creamed cod, but unfortunately I didn't like it. The dish was served with a cream of carrots and blueberry puree. Not only that the cod was bland, tasteless, there was not a trace of garlic or bay leaves or pepper, a shame because I really like cod.

The Broletto consists of four buildings, gathered around a quadrilateral courtyard: the ancient brolum. To the north is the Palazzo dell’Arengo (13th – 14th century); to the east is the Palazzo dei Paratici (mid-13th century) with the loggia in front (18th century); to the south is the Palazzo del Podestà (late 14th – early 15th century) and to the west is the Palazzo dei Referendari (late 14th – 15th century). The façade of the Palazzo del Podestà has five pointed windows, unequal in size and surrounded by terracotta decorations, while on the entire wall, plastered and painted, the various coats of arms of the podestàs who succeeded one another over the years have been detected, despite the deterioration of the plaster and decorations: frescoes that punctuated the single-lancet windows, of which the portion adjacent to the right side of the first window containing the Arcimboldi family coat of arms dates back to the 16th century. The Arengo frescoes are a very rare example of a medieval secular-themed work.

During our visit, we had an aperitif around 11:30 a.m. Well I thought it was an Italian custom to have ancas (pizza, foccacia etc...) as a side dish but no... in other bars yes
