Il Barroccio In Firenze

THE best food in Florence! We have been dining at Il Barroccio for many years and the food is consitently fantastic. Fresh quality ingredients make all the difference. Gianni is a genius and a warm and unique character who genuinely cares about his work. A comfortable and unfussy little place with simple decor one a quiet street just alongside the Bargello. Go find it, you will be so happy.

We had such a memorable experience at Il Barroccio. It’s a small, charming spot on a quiet street just off the center of Florence, and it honestly felt like we had stepped into a tiny Italian village. We sat outside and ended up talking with the owner/chef for quite a while—he speaks good English and is incredibly passionate about food and wine. He guided us through what to order and paired everything perfectly. What stood out most was how strongly he feels about food pairings—he even explained why you shouldn’t mix beef and fish because of how it affects the palate. It was fascinating and made the whole meal feel like an experience, not just dinner. The food, wine, and conversation were all delightful. If you’re looking for something authentic and personal rather than touristy, this is the place.

I had a very good bruschetta and pasta with ragu. Highly recommended.

This is hands down the best Italian pasta you can ever have. The ingredients are very fresh and so light you are left with a mixed feeling of being full and wanted to get more because it’s so good. The dry aged bistecca is cooked to perfection. Mr. Giovanni is an amazing host, who really understands food and cares about the quality of his food. One word of advice, don’t try to change anything on the dishes in the menu.

One of the few true local eateries left in Florence historic centre. Gorgeous local cooking. All about the food not the decor. English spoken. Try the pici al cinghiale!

The best classic traditional Tuscan restaurant in Florence. Looks simple but amazing food. Doesn’t bother to advertise because diners come by word of mouth recommendations. If you eat here you’ll return!!

The chef prepared 5 different pastas with 5 different sauces on his own which all tasted amazing and were done pretty quick. Real italian food.

The Food was amazing, and great service by Gianni who cooked for 5 people all by himself, while being very nice about it. Also: Other reviews complaining about not getting cheese on their pasta… I guess they dont know this is considered rude to an Italian chef as you are now changing the taste of the dish. Really tells you this is Italian cuisine at its best.

Wonderful jewel of a restaurant. Very small and intimate with incredibly delicious dishes presented with a very warm welcome. Everything we had was just excellent. Highly recommended.
