The restaurant is nestled within the Porta Pretoria, making it quite evocative in itself. Its walls date back to the 25th century BC.
Excellent local food, elegantly presented.
The waiter was young but well-trained, helpful but not intrusive.
The owners were friendly.
Given our gastronomical acumen, the owner even offered us a digestif. Excellent ginepy.
Highly recommended.

We had dinner one evening at this beautiful location in the historic center of Aosta. Upon entering, you might think you're walking into a "stinky" restaurant, but you find yourself in a beautiful setting, certainly stylish but affordable for all budgets. Upon entering, a young man named Emanuele is ready to welcome you, very friendly and witty. The dining rooms are very beautiful and spacious. The service is attentive, courtesy of Emanuele's partner, Anais.
The quality of the food offered is very pleasing, and so is the final product.

Eating in an old Roman fortress sounds really cool - and this place is in one. The interior is (quite intelligently) not roman-looking, but lovely anyway. Nice food from the old Italian Savoy area (Vallée d'Aoste, Piedmont and Liguria). Given the location, not super expensive.

Ianua means Gate in Latin, and indeed the restaurant is located inside one of the four gates of the Roman "Casta Hiberna," the Pretoria Gate. I don't think any other restaurant can boast a similar location. Aosta, like my hometown (Turin), was founded following Emperor Augustus's campaigns against King Cottius. Permanent, fortified military camps were built to shelter troops during the winter, and around these, the cities of Augusta Taurinorum (Turin) and Augusta Pretoria (Aosta) arose. That said, the thrill of dining inside a piece of history is unparalleled. The service is excellent, as is the food, and the owner-manager is a very friendly person. I absolutely recommend trying it here, and I can't wait to return to Aosta and repeat the experience.

I ate there yesterday for lunch with friends, a creamy porcini risotto and an excellent tiramisu. We recommend this restaurant. Very warm welcome from the staff. Impeccable service.

A beautiful restaurant in a unique setting. The owner is very friendly, the staff professional and courteous (the guys are truly talented, attentive yet discreet). Excellent cuisine, using quality ingredients, features traditional dishes with some well-crafted reinterpretations. We dined in a very quiet room, where even our dogs were kept calm and promptly offered a bowl of fresh water. The wine was excellent, too. What can I say... 10 out of 10, well-deserved! We'll definitely be back!

Restaurant with wonderful decor, excellent service, very tasty fondutta, cotoletta could come with some vegetables like potatoes, delicious roast beef but I would add some mild sauce to accompany it

Wonderful restaurant. I had tempura vegetables that were as good as those I´ve had in Japan, and followed that with a lovely fresh Dorada and ratatouille. Good wine too. A lovely experience. My husband had dessert - but I can´t remember what, only that he enjoyed it thoroughly.

Right next to the Praetorian Gate, enjoy a pleasant evening on the terrace (despite the many tourists and therefore few locals).
Aperol spritz aperitif (although we would have preferred a Hugo with elderflower syrup), and fontina fondue served in individual fondue pots. The grilled vegetables are excellent, but not enough for the price (€14). The desserts are excellent. The service is very professional.
