Ristobar is the right definition, nice and informal for a not-too-pretentious aperitif. The overall service could be improved a bit with some adjustments that would increase customer satisfaction. The choice between not-so-extensive platters and off-menu dishes with somewhat modest portions and on paper plates. Otherwise, the view is definitely beautiful and the staff is fast and courteous. Suitable for couples or groups without too many expectations.

We stopped at this restaurant after our walk without a reservation, but despite the large crowd, they were very kind in finding us a table. We had a platter of cured meats and cheeses with honey and jam, a plate of bresaola, arrosticini, a salami sandwich, fries, and a chocolate pudding—all very good. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick, and the view of the plain was beautiful.

Wonderful location, excellent food. I see a lot of negative reviews regarding the prices... honestly, for a platter of quality cured meats and cheeses, €18 seems generous. The waitresses were very nice, kind, and helpful. Highly recommended.

My wife and I went here for an aperitivo. The view was stunning and the food was excellent. The price is commensurate with the quality of the products. If you want to eat well, you'll pay a little more than average, but it's totally worth it!

16/12/2025: On the lake shore, near the Lovers' Promenade. A classic tourist spot with high prices, but its location and views compel you to stop. The hot chocolate and coffee are decent; I wouldn't ask for more. It's more about enjoying the view than the menu.
16/12/2025: I arrived in Varenna very early for breakfast. I ordered breakfast, it was tasty, but nothing out of this world. However, the view was something else. It was a little difficult to find a table; we waited around 5 or 10 minutes, but we managed to get one on the terrace. We enjoyed the lake while I had breakfast and drank coffee.

26/06/2025: Very beautiful and suggestive location, lots of greenery and a quiet area. We celebrated my son's communion in May and we had a great time. The food was good, cooked to perfection. None of the guests complained. The risotto was truly exquisite, we even asked for seconds, and the roast suckling pig was more than decent. Above all, the service was impeccable, attentive to all our needs: we asked for personalized menus, gluten-free, lactose-free, pork-free and we were satisfied. And without extra charge! After lunch we were able to relax in the garden, sitting on the sofas with some kindly offered bitters. In short... a successful communion!! Thanks so much to all the staff!!
24/06/2025: We were there on Sunday 11th May for my niece's communion, a nice location with large outdoor spaces, we had lunch outside. On the menu we had, something could be improved: mixed appetizers of cold cuts, nothing to say, the vegetable flan had no taste, the risotto with asparagus was very bland and had little taste, the cannelloni alla bolognese were acceptable without much praise, the roast suckling pig with potatoes was good, the cake was normal. Coincidentally, on the same day I met a friend again for his son's communion and he told me the first one they had chosen (risotto with aubergines and burrata was very good) maybe the one with asparagus is not their strong point. For the price per person, I don't know, we were invited.
