Every time we go to visit the house of the Good Pope we stop for lunch here. Great prices, fabulous food and polite, accommodating staff. I recommend the casoncelli alla bergamo!

When I go to Sotto il Monte, an obligatory stop for lunch at Papa Giovanni XXIII

September 22, 2024 We stopped for a pizza... but they only make it in the evening. Then we were offered the fixed price menu. Never was a more appropriate choice! 4 braised meat with polenta and 2 casoncelli Bergamo style. House wine. Optimal. 6 coffees. Mineral water. Service, quality, price: All excellent. The ambience is missing a star because we wanted to be outdoors... but not having booked it wasn't possible. But overall a great lunch! Thanks to the staff.

We were on an excursion to Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII. We arrived at the Basilica around 11.00 and attended the celebration of Sunday mass. Once the ceremony was over, we visited the Crypt and stopped for a few minutes outside in front of the statue of St. John XXIII. After a short walk we went to the point where there are several places where you can eat. We hadn't thought about booking, so they told us there were no places available. We went to Hostaria Don Lisander and asked for a table. There were still two tables available, so we sat inside. A young woman immediately gave us the order and after about 10/15 minutes she served us the two first courses ordered. A red wine risotto with sausage and a casoncelli risotto. Followed by two second courses of meat with polenta. All delicious and served hot. A good glass of wine and coffee. An excellent service. Excellent price/quality. We will definitely return.

Excellent lunch with Valencian paella and sangria. Very fresh fish! .
