Located among the ancient Via Appia, this unique restaurant will further immerse you in antiquity. Besides Italian classics, the menu features several dishes and deserts inspired by Roman gourmet Apicius. The passionate chef enthousiastically explains the details and context of the meals.
A truly great experience and a great way to end a day after traveling the ancient Roman road.
The meals we have had in pictures below:
Vivaruium Anatis: Duck breast and honey sauce
Pullum oxizomum: chicken in leeks, vinegar and garum
Patina Cotidiana: Lasagna with beef ragout

We were here for the first time in 2015, then in the old place! Already here in 2019 at the new location! We were here again at our favorite restaurant in Rome! Amazing food and environment! Paulo is still the best host!

We went on a Thursday. It was 2:00 p.m. and we were only eating 2 tables.
Very good food. Paolo, a wonderful guy and a restaurant full of history.

Hosteria Antica Roma
My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant 20 years ago when we lived in Rome.
We even held our son’s Baptism Reception in the beautiful garden area.
We had such lovely memories of Osteria Antica Roma with its exquisite food, its beautiful, historical location and warm hospitality. We were a bit hesitant to return since so much time had passed, we thought we might be disappointed. However, we decided to take our chances and made a reservation –and we were so glad that we did. We were NOT disappointed! The owners Signor Massimo and his son, Chef Paolo, improved on what was an already an outstanding restaurant. The restaurant changed to a bigger location (always on Via Appia Antica), so now there is even more to appreciate!
It was such a unique, unforgettable, and delicious dining experience. Chef Paolo is fluent in English, cultured and well-travelled. He is as passionate about food as he is in the history of what the Ancient Roman aristocrats ate. He shared that knowledge with us with the presentation of each dish—which was a delightful dimension to the meal.
We look forward to our next visit to Hostaria Antica Roma—which will be very soon!

An ideal place for a special celebration. The food is very good and the menu consists of recipes from ancient Rome. The space is welcoming and very well set, with a touch of the early 20th century. The exteriors are simply spectacular. The service is extraordinary, from before, and the owner is super attentive, a great host.
