We had lunch at this restaurant near the tomb of Cecilia Metella and rediscovered the unique atmosphere of ancient Rome, both in the delicious dishes revisited according to the recipes of the ancient chef Apicius, and in the superlative hospitality of Paolo (the host) and his staff.

The restaurant is located within the Appian Way park, which is certainly a plus. The dishes are refined and high-quality. A good selection of meat and fish. The appetizers we chose were high-quality, as was the lasagna bianca. The tiramisu, however, was less so, as it left everyone a bit disappointed. Overall, a positive experience.

Imagine the Sunday before Christmas, warm as if it were almost spring, a tasting of dishes inspired by ancient Rome, the real thing, plus the friendliness, experience, and historical-archaeological, yet also comical, tales of Paolo, who is truly one of a kind! If you want to eat superbly and be captivated by his passion, this is the place for you, according to a new, loyal customer!

A charming place in the heart of the Appian Way Park.
Excellent quality food, charming service, and a family atmosphere. The owner, Paolo, delighted us with stories of what the ancient Romans ate.
Highly recommended, also for gluten-free meals. My toddler enjoyed and appreciated everything he was offered.

I visited Hostaria Antica Roma and had a truly memorable experience. The owner, Paolo, is extremely kind and passionately guides you through the menu, explaining its origins and history: an added bonus that transforms dinner into a mini-journey.
The restaurant is a well-established tradition, established for over 40 years in the splendid setting of Via Appia Antica 176, nestled in a centuries-old park that gives the place an elegant and intimate atmosphere.
The cuisine is typically Roman but with a special twist: you'll also find dishes inspired by ancient Rome, recipes that date back to a time before tomatoes were even a staple on the table. This makes the experience even more original and definitely worth trying.
We enjoyed both "classic" Roman cuisine, such as the truly delicious tomato meatballs, as well as reinvented traditional dishes: the quality of the ingredients and the care taken in their preparation were evident. The desserts deserve a special mention—the tiramisu is excellent, and the cassata is equally as delicious.
The atmosphere is refined, elegant but not overly formal, with a lovely outdoor garden and a warm interior. There's a real sense of history, thanks in part to the photos and signs of the famous people who have frequented this restaurant.
