To say the least… AMAZING. Friulian cuisine and more, excellent wine cellar. A very respectable tavern with honest prices in the center of Udine.

Osteria Grappolo d'Oro is located in the very center of Udine. The place has - in the true sense of the word - an authentic, unconstructed retro atmosphere. It consists of an internal room, with spartan furnishings, and a patio that, in the summer, is really pleasant. If you are in the right mood and concentrate, you can think of having taken a step back in time. Let's get to the interesting things, counter and table. At the counter the offer of tastings, canapés and fried foods is truly complete: next to the inevitable Ascoli olives you will find exquisite things such as canapés with mixed cold cuts, meatballs, calamari and more. The fried foods are not at all heavy and, really, one leads to another: excellent for a well "reinforced" aperitif! At the table you eat well, very well: the menu is varied and characterized by simple dishes such as cod, goulash, baked potatoes, tuna steak, gnocchi in various shapes, soups...; the portions will surprise you with their generosity. Personally I recommend my combination from yesterday: pasta with trout and pepper ragù (vote ten) and tuna steak (vote ten +), with baked potatoes as a side dish. My wife had the goulash with polenta, vote ten for this last one too. To accompany everything, ask for the "di Riccardo" beer, on tap, and you won't go wrong! Bon appétit!

Historic place in Udine with traditional Friulian cuisine. I found the managers friendly, even if a little too busy to serve the large number of customers. Period atmosphere, well preserved and pleasant. Very affordable prices.

A buon titolo nella schiera delle nostre trattorie preferite a Udine, luogo d’incontro per datati gruppi di vecchi amici, che colgono l’occasione di condividere qualche bicchiere di buon vino per fare quattro chiacchiere sui tempi andati, ma anche ottimo luogo per una pausa pranzo di qualità, che accomuna manager ed impiegati delle banche e degli uffici circostanti, coppie di giovani, o magari un po’ più attempate, alla ricerca di un locale tipico ed accogliente, gruppi di signore reduci da una mattinata di shopping. Sempre molto frequentato, il locale offre sempre ed a chiunque la possibilità di gustare quanto di proprio gusto, sia esso una ricca e gustosa tartina, un buon piatto caldo della tradizione, o semplicemente un bicchiere di vino o una birra. Da quanto so, è da poco cambiata la gestione/proprietà, ma la qualità della cucina è rimasta invariata, così come l’accoglienza gentile da parte del personale, motivi per cui il locale appare perennemente vivace e molto frequentato. Il menù, scritto a mano su un foglietto di carta da macellaio, riporta i piatti del giorno, sempre invitanti e appetitosi, che variano senza grande regolarità, conservando sempre qualche “cavallo di battaglia”, sempre molto gradito dagli avventori. In questa occasione, abbiamo scelto un piatto condiviso di ottime sarde in saor, un baccalà alla vicentina con polenta, ed un gulasch con polenta; tutti piatti offerti in dosi quantomeno generose, e molto apprezzati per la qualità degli ingredienti e per i loro gusti decisi. Abbiamo bevuto il vino bianco della casa, acqua minerale, caffè. Un pranzo decisamente piacevole, servizio rapido e cordiale, un ambiente accogliente e molto vivace ed accattivante, un conto contenuto, considerata l’ottima qualità dei piatti.

Cibo di ottima qualità con porzioni abbondanti. Ottima la zuppa, il baccalà con la polenta e anche la battuta di manzo. simpaticissimo il titolare
