The property is undoubtedly beautiful—historic charm, elegant grounds, and a premium location. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere and amenities during our stay. Unfortunately, our experience was impacted by the non-functioning air conditioning in our room. Despite calling the reception multiple times and receiving repeated promises that someone would come to fix it, no one showed up and the issue was never resolved. For a hotel of this caliber, we expected much better responsiveness to guest concerns. We hope management addresses this, as everything else about the stay was memorable.

A masterpiece, among the best hotels I've ever stayed in. It's a true immersion in the history of the place, a finely renovated historic building, with meticulous attention to detail. The staff is five-star, and the room, with a lake view, is enchanting in every way. We had dinner, choosing the tasting menu. We were served by a young but talented waiter, and the food was excellent and the price was fair (the chef is a Michelin-starred chef).

A beautiful Art Nouveau hotel on the Stresa lakefront. Everything exudes elegance and luxury, with period furnishings that are always up to par. The bright dining and breakfast room is splendid, with a lovely veranda overlooking the lake. The spa is modern and well-equipped. All rooms are in Belle Epoque style, immaculately maintained and spotlessly clean. Breakfast offers a varied buffet of sweet and savory options, and enjoying it in the splendid setting of the opulent room is priceless.

A fairytale weekend. This luxurious Art Nouveau hotel overlooking Stresa's lakefront has a movie-like atmosphere. The interiors are breathtaking, and all the amenities are top-notch, including the spa and outdoor pools. We stayed in the attic, the most affordable yet stylish option. The breakfast buffet was top-notch.

The Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees is a beautifully preserved gem—a place that feels more like a small museum than a modern hotel. Its opulent décor, classic furnishings, and grand architecture evoke a timeless elegance that will appeal most to adult couples and mature travellers. It’s not the kind of place that caters to younger guests looking for buzz or trendiness, but that’s precisely its charm. We stayed in two rooms: the Imperial Suite and the Junior Suite vista lago. The Imperial Suite certainly had more space—including a second toilet and a large sitting area—but in truth, we found the extra room unnecessary. The real standout feature was the spacious terrace, which offered a serene setting to enjoy the outdoors in privacy. Service throughout our stay was generally excellent. Staff were professional, attentive, and polished. That said, among the more senior members, there were moments where confidence bordered on arrogance—a very fine line in hospitality. Still, it didn’t detract significantly from the overall experience. We had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Il Borromeo. The meal was good, well-executed, and presented with care, though the food itself didn’t leave a particularly lasting impression. It met expectations for a hotel of this calibre but didn’t exceed them. In all, this is a stunning property for those who appreciate old-world luxury, quiet refinement, and a slower pace. We enjoyed our stay but probably not return.

The food was only okay for a 5-star hotel! Service was good, but it felt more like being ripped off. It felt like a mass-production operation! In the bar, you're bombarded with piano music that's way too loud. A relaxed atmosphere with quiet conversation? None of that! It's better to drive a little further out (5 minutes from there) to the 5-star Villa Aminta.
