We stopped at this café while waiting in the shopping area of Formia, on the recommendation of a family member. Upon entering, the profile of the regulars made it clear that it's a very posh place, focused on appearances and catering to the local socialites. We didn't feel a connection to that atmosphere.
Food-wise, the experience was a mixed bag. The espresso and macchiato were good. The pizza and pistachio croissant (where the filling was practically nonexistent) were decent, but the ricotta pasticciotto was spectacular: the pastry and filling were excellent, a solid 10 for that.
The weakest point was the service. We were served by a rather inexperienced young man, and if you're going to be charged €3 for a macchiato, the least you expect is a smile when taking or serving your order. We definitely didn't like the atmosphere of the place. In Formia, we've discovered much more modest cafés where the staff makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in. We appreciate the experience, but on our next visits we will explore other options in the city.

Gran Caffè Tirreno has been a regular stop for years, and each time we find the same family atmosphere that makes it special. The large, delicious croissants are one of the reasons we always return: fragrant, well-made, with that consistent quality that has become a given.
But the true heart of the place is the owner. She's welcomed us with the same kindness, helpfulness, and gentleness throughout her life. She's a longtime presence, affectionate, and consistently caring for her customers, while the place renews and improves year after year. A rare combination: living tradition in the person, evolving in the spaces.
A place that's more than just a café, but a small family ritual.

We ordered two cocktails (gin and tonic and pina colada) for €8 each, as per the menu. Among the various gins, I asked for the Mare Gin, but they didn't inform me of the surcharge.
