Sometimes certain places silently enter our lives without us fully grasping the value they then have in our daily lives. On my daily commute between my office and my home, along Via Toscanini, on my left, near the Gallo D'Oro, is the Emmedi supermarket. I stop often to take care of all those small daily needs: a few groceries to make lunch and dinner easier, personal hygiene products, excellent value. Added to this is the economically intangible added value of the generous, helpful female staff of this colorful place, both the ladies manning the counters and the cashiers. The latter deserve special praise, all of them. Being a woman already takes the courage of a tiger, but staying anchored to a checkout counter for hours, mechanically repeating the same hand gestures, and being careful to handle all financial transactions with great responsibility. I sometimes wonder if the HR managers and general managers fully appreciate the sheer dedication these women put into their work. When it's my turn at the checkout, I always try to exchange a few kind words with the cashier on duty: among the many, the most appreciated is when I tell them it would be right if supermarket cashiers were recognized for their "hard labor" status. A small "I wish." Then a final smile, and see you tomorrow.
