After waiting for the seasonal opening, I wanted to treat myself to an experience in what is considered by many to be one of the best ice cream parlors in Pordenone. ChatGPT, upon specific request, also listed it among the best ice cream makers in the city.
I approached the restaurant and the refrigerated counter with sky-high hype, already anticipating the cold delicacies created, with pride, by hand.
I tend to underline that what I will express are completely personal opinions.
I arrive in the late afternoon of a Saturday in March, so the day is coming to an end.
I notice that alongside the classic flavors in the trays there are particularly tasty flavors on display with unusual, almost bold combinations (I wouldn't want to use the very inflated gourmand). I let myself be fascinated by the thrill of the unusual, by the cutting-edge combos and I ask for a cup with three of these.
To tell the truth, apart from the associated names, the appearance of the product, in general, didn't seem that great to me: they seemed not very creamy and with the typical wrinkles from very low storage temperatures...
And the thrill of the unusual was…
Unfortunately, the palate also confirmed what was noticed behind the glass counter: very cold ice cream, almost frozen, and this serving temperature did not help the tasting experience.
I noticed, strangely, that the flavours, usually flattered and weakened by the very cold, were also there but were not characterized by little naturalness.
They were very strong, some even perhaps too exalted, and I think, not very balanced.
They seemed like many soloists disconnected from each other and not very harmonious. Instead, good music is harmony…
In fact, once the tasting was finished, the taste buds asked for mercy and, subsequently, the sensation of thirst was perceived very markedly. This usually happens when the sugar content is too high. Usually, I say, I don't know if this is the case...
I would have personally preferred a more accentuated creaming and, in general, greater creaminess: the experience would have benefited in terms of satisfaction.
The cream had a good consistency and didn't come loose until the end of the tasting: the only flaw, in my personal taste, was a little too sugary.
So overall, but I'm definitely wrong, it was a disappointing experience, given the reputation and good reputation of the place. I will have stumbled upon one of the rare bad days: mine or the ice cream maker's? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
I remember that these are purely personal opinions which must not in any way affect the quality of the work expressed over time by this renowned ice cream shop...
