We had a voucher to redeem and went for dinner. The restaurant is very nice and there was a pleasant atmosphere. The staff and managers were all very friendly. The food was great, with unusual dishes. The prices are a little upscale, but not exorbitant. It was a very nice evening.

Culinary surprise at an altitude of 929 meters The Gasthof Jäger is a family-run mountain inn with a beautiful garden and game reserve high above Nals. Snacks and traditional South Tyrolean regional cuisine, consisting primarily of home-grown produce, are offered there at reasonable prices. The location and the view are sensational. Hikers, bikers, and road trippers all come here for a rest. Up to this point, the inn is one of those typical, good South Tyrolean restaurants that score points with their location and authentic, traditional cuisine. But in addition to the rustic snacks, the young chef Guntmar Öttl presents creative, aromatic gourmet cuisine that would honor any Michelin-starred restaurant. He learned his trade in top international gastronomy, and if you follow his resume, you'll come across many well-known names in the Michelin-star league. He describes his cuisine on the inn's beautiful website as: "Bacon meets truffle" – thus summing up the unique culinary concept to its core. But the culinary and aromatic range that the chef creates with his creative seasonal cuisine is sensational! A firework of flavors and an artful combination of the familiar and the creative. The potato dumplings filled with fresh chanterelle mushrooms were a delicious change after all the Schlutzer (shrimp soup). The stuffed zucchini blossom wrapped in tuna brought an unfamiliar flavor combination to the palate – a highly creative interpretation of a classic. The char fillet in artichoke broth impressed with its first-class quality and freshness – the texture and flavors were a culinary delight! My favorite was the low-temperature cooked, super-tender beef shoulder with bread dumpling soufflé and chard. The meat melted in the mouth, and the sauce was a masterpiece in both taste and consistency. And I must emphasize again: You are in a family-run mountain inn, not a trendy, hip gourmet restaurant frequented primarily by visitors clutching a gourmet bible. The friendly Öttl family serves guests with warm South Tyrolean hospitality. The value for money is sensationally good: snacks, South Tyrolean regional cuisine, and fine dining at completely normal local prices. Conclusion: The Gasthof Jäger is a must for foodies and connoisseurs. It is also ideal for families with children. While the parents are enjoying themselves, the little ones can play in the garden and watch the red deer in the enclosure. For us, it is a culinary highlight of any trip to South Tyrol.

A nice place, excellent handmade products but this time the wiener schnitzels were certainly pre-cooked, with dry breading and stringy meat, perhaps to avoid making customers wait too long, too bad I had eaten much better the previous time

Der Gasthof Jäger ist ein familiengeführer Berggasthof mit einem schönen Gastgarten und Wildgehege hoch über Nals. Dort werden Jausen und traditionelle Südtiroler Regionalküche bestehend aus überwiegend selbstproduzierten Erzeugnissen zu moderaten Preisen angeboten. Die Lage und der Ausblick sind sensationell. Hier finden sich Wanderer, Biker und Auto-Ausflügler zur Rast ein. Bis hierhin ist der Gasthof einer von den typischen guten Südtiroler Lokalen, die mit ihrer Lage und der authentischen traditionellen Küche punkten. Doch neben der rustikalen Jausenküche präsentiert der junge Koch Guntmar Öttl eine kreative aromatische Gourmetküche, die jedem Sternerestaurant zur Ehre reichen würde. Er hat sein Handwerk in der internationalen Top-Gastronomie erlernt und wenn Sie seine Vita verfolgen, stoßen Sie auf viele bekannte Namen in der Michelin-Sterne-Liga. Er beschreibt seine Küche auf der sehr schönen Website des Gasthofes mit: "Speck trifft auf Trüffel" - und reduziert das einmalige Küchenkonzept damit auf den Punkt. Doch den kulinarisch-aromatischen Bogen, den der Koch mit seiner kreativen Saisonküche spannt, der ist sensationell! Ein Feuerwerk an Geschmack und eine kunstvolle Verbindung von Vertrautem und Kreativem. Die Kartoffelteigtaschen mit einer Füllung aus frischen Pfifferlingen waren nach den vielen Schlutzern eine wohlschmeckende Abwechslung. Die gefüllte Zucchiniblüte im Thunfischmantel brachte eine unbekannte Aromenkombination an den Gaumen - eine höchst kreative Interpretation eines Klassikers. Das Saiblingsfilet im Artischokensud überzeugte durch erstklassige Qualität und Frische- die Textur und die Aromen waren großes kulinarisches Kino! Mein Favorit war die niedrigtemperaturgegarte superzarte Rinderschulter mit Semmelknödel-Soufflée und Mangold. Das Fleisch zerging auf der Zunge und die Soße war von Geschmack und Konsistenz ein Meisterwerk. Und ich muß nochmals betonen: Sie befinden sich hier in einem familiengeführten Berggasthof und nicht in einem trendig-angesagten Gourmetrestaurant, das überwiegend von Besuchern mit der roten Feinschmecker-Bibel unter dem Arm aufgesucht wird. Die freundliche Familie Öttl bedient die Gäste mit herzlicher Südtiroler Gastfreundschaft. Dabei ist das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis sensationell günstig: Jausen, Südtiroler Regionalküche und Fine-Dining zu ganz normalen ortsüblichen Preisen. Fazit: Der Gasthof Jäger ist ein Muß für Foodies und Feinschmecker. Er ist auch für Familien mit Kindern bestens geeignet. Denn wenn die Eltern genießen, können die Kleinen im Garten spielen und das Rotwild im Gehege beobachten. Für uns ein kulinarischer Höhepunkt einer jeden Südtirol-Reise.

Alla ricerca di pace e qualità, abbiamo deciso di pranzare in questo ristorante. La cornice già meravigliosa che regala la natura, è stata valorizzata da piatti eccellenti nell’aspetto, per la qualità e per il gusto. Servizio attento e gentile. Consigliatissimo… torneremo presto! The restaurant was recommended to us during the wine tasting in the Nals-Margreid winery. The location on the mountain with a view of the valley and the surrounding mountains alone is worth the trip. The food is just perfect with changing daily specials. The excellent pasta dishes and salads are highly recommended, as are the desserts. After eating, you can take a short walk to a nearby small church
