Wow!!! My parents have always told me about this place, and I finally got to try it...a delight!!! Quality snails, mushroom pappardelle, and polenta were the best I've ever tasted. The young and very kind waiters. I'll definitely be back.

You can't visit Domodossola and the surrounding area without stopping by the Gallo Nero restaurant. A delightful discovery. Absolutely recommended. I've found such attentive service in few places.

I had lunch at this restaurant on the way back from Switzerland via the Simplon Pass. I must say it was a pleasant surprise. Located in a beautiful, green valley, surrounded by pastures of Piedmontese Fassona cattle, it's modern with a large, elegant wooden structure. The staff was friendly and the service was very fast. I started with a platter of delicious Piedmontese cured meats, followed by the dish of the day: saffron risotto with osso buco and baked potatoes. It was simply exquisite, perfectly cooked, with a delicate yet intense flavor and generous portions. Coffee was served with homemade biscuits. I was satisfied with the quality of the food and the service. I'll be back as soon as I can to try other delicious dishes.

The only flaw is going to eat in the evening and seeing the owner in shorts and sitting at a table with acquaintances there half slouched is unprofessional, for the rest everything excellent, impeccable service, compliments to the young, serious and polite waiters. The food is excellent.. Prices average..

We tried "Osteria Gallo Nero" for the first time thanks to the Smartbox experience. Everything was perfect: excellent food, very kind staff, and a very pleasant atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!!

A pleasant discovery. We went there after seeing it on a TV report on Italia 1. It's a very cute and modern place, with delicious dishes, traditional products, and a fabulous wine cellar for all tastes. A must-try!

We came here on the last day of summer and found a truly excellent mushroom menu. I love snails, and here I found the best I've ever had! Everything was excellent, from starters to dessert, even the coffee was very good.

20/09/2025: Hidden away in the tiny hamlet of Stropino. The restaurant's unusual name derives from local umbrella makers' slang, apparently. The quirkiness doesn't stop there. No written menu, Basil Fawlty-type "welcome." We were the only non-locals there, and glances from the regulars were initially suspicious, hostile even. We hadn't booked and had to wait on the naughty step. But if you can get past all that - and try to speak some Italian - then this is an authentic and very enjoyable dining experience: excellent value, good-quality wine by the carafe, everything home-made and local. And everyone was friendly by the time we left! Light years away from the tourist traps on the Borromean islands.

Ristorante Flizzi

05/10/2025: Passing by, I ate at this culinary wonder. The dishes were truly meticulously prepared, including a special Val d'Ossola cured meats appetizer with two truly exceptional cheeses, delicious polenta concia, and a veal round with tuna sauce and delicious capers—truly superb. The house Val d'Ossola wine was also excellent, and to finish, the Catalan cream with figs and a truly special hazelnut and zabaglione cake! I'll conclude by saying that kindness is a must! 10 out of 10! Stefano. Eleonora.
03/09/2025: We dined at Ristorante Flizzi di Staffa in Macugnaga and it was a memorable experience. Kudos to the chef for his excellent dishes made with the highest-quality ingredients, to the waitress for her attentiveness and professionalism, and to the owner, a great wine connoisseur, who welcomed us warmly and spent time with us after dinner. Impeccable service, a refined atmosphere, and unforgettable dishes. It's a shame we only discovered it on the last day of our vacation: we would have loved to try the entire menu!
