It's not possible to go up by car, so we took the funicular.
Very convenient and reasonably priced.
A pleasant experience.

Very useful.
We were here on Sunday, April 26th, and after parking, we sat in the lobby waiting for the funicular, which was about to arrive. It left on time both ways. We used the restrooms, which we found clean. The ride up or down, whether you prefer, is spectacular, with a breathtaking view of Mercogliano and Avellino. We recommend increasing the number of rides during peak times, such as after Mass, because we've heard of people being stranded and having to wait two rides (an hour) to get off, despite the funicular running every 30 minutes. Highly recommended.

Really very comfortable and in a few moments you reach the sanctuary of Monte Vergine, 5 euros return, a more than reasonable price

A beautiful experience especially for the convenience of parking nearby and getting to the sanctuary in 7 minutes compared to the 40 minutes of curves by car, I highly recommend it

Montevergine Abbey—the starting point of the William Way—can be reached from Mercogliano in just 7 minutes via the historic funicular (location). Mercogliano can be reached from Naples Central Station or Naples Capodichino Airport by AirCampania buses (approximately every 20 minutes): get off at the 'Torrette di Mercogliano' stop (location). Mercogliano is also connected to the Air bus station in Avellino by urban buses. The provincial capital, Avellino, is connected to the towns along the Way (first 7 stages) by AirCampania and buses operated by other companies that terminate at the new bus station (location).
