On a classic Northern winter evening, one of those when you're not sure what to do, I finally decided to try Frulleria Caffè in Cassano d'Adda. I'd been eyeing it for a while and kept telling myself, "I'll go there someday"... and yesterday was that day.
I went with another person, a bit adventurously: I'd read that reservations are recommended, but we wanted to give it a try anyway.
The place was indeed packed, but the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, making us wait at the (warm) entrance for about 15–20 minutes until a table for two became available.
The place is small but very welcoming, with a warm and cozy atmosphere that's almost reminiscent of a London pub: soft lighting, an intimate setting, perfect for a quiet evening. Due to its small size, it fills up quickly, so reservations are definitely recommended, especially on weekends.
In our case, it was more of a quick stop, snatching up a last-minute spot.
The menu is quite extensive and well thought out, with options for all tastes, including vegetarian options.
I chose the Twiga sandwich: seemingly simple, but actually a perfect choice. The beef tartare takes center stage and pairs perfectly with its sauce; the avocado adds balance and cleanliness to the palate, creating an excellent harmony of flavors. The fresh and crispy bread (probably grilled) complements the whole thing perfectly.
The sandwich was accompanied by rustic fries, well-made and ideal as a side dish.
Even looking at the presentation (as seen in the photos), you can see attention to detail: fresh ingredients, well-assembled sandwich, simple yet attentive service, truly inviting you to try it.
Overall, a more than positive experience.
Highly recommended, whether for a casual evening or a quick but quality dinner.
My only real advice: make a reservation, because the place is worth it and the tables fill up quickly.
