I stopped by Cioli 1917 in Castel Gandolfo while strolling, drawn by the historic atmosphere that can be felt from the street. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just a well-made sandwich. And indeed, I left satisfied. The porchetta is truly delicious: flavorful, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, just as it should be. I understand why so many consider it one of the best in Castel Gandolfo. The staff was friendly and quick, no frills but with that genuine approach that makes you feel at home. The place is simple, more for a quick stop than a long dinner. When it's busy, there's a bit of a line and there's not much space, but they're organized quickly and don't waste too much time. The prices are fair, although some sandwiches may seem a bit small compared to the expected size. Overall, for me, it's the perfect place when I want something authentic and immediate: a well-made sandwich, a relaxed atmosphere, and the feeling of tasting a piece of Castelli Romani tradition. If you're looking for an elegant atmosphere, it might not be the ideal place, but if you love authentic flavors, Cioli 1917 does exactly what it promises.

A very welcoming atmosphere, with the option of having sandwiches or simply dishes based on vegetables, porchetta, and sausages prepared and eating them directly on site.

It's the best porchetta I've ever eaten and that's why I'm happy to go back.

The sandwiches are generous and delicious, the porchetta is truly phenomenal, and the pickles are also noteworthy. Fair prices, not only for the food but also for the drinks.

Cioli is always a guarantee of quality. The restaurant, just steps from Lake Castelgandolfo with a splendid view from above, is small but offers a few tables outside as well as a spacious terrace. It's a shame it was freezing cold because there was no heating. The service is very friendly and fast. The porchetta is truly delicious, as are the vegetables (chicory, dried tomatoes, potatoes, etc.), the fresh bread, and the cured meats, especially salami and coppiette. The portions are generous and the prices reasonable. Highly recommended.

I bought the €20 takeout deal, which includes 500g of porchetta (the original Cioli is delicious), a couple of salamis, and a slice of guanciale. Sautéed chicory and a good Cesanese red wine are also included for €6.
