This is not your touristy stop, unless, like me, you love baccalà. Here, it's salty juice stockfish, deep fried in a crumbly crispy exterior, and, if you do it well, eaten with the ever-so-Roman puntarelle.
It's a hole in the wall place; barely room for a handful of people to stand, although there are maybe two small tables, if you can nab one. Otherwise, eat the well-oiled deliciousness while standing outside, watching kids kick a soccer ball around, as tourists file across the piazza toward the narrowest church in Rome (or maybe anywhere), Santa Barbara.
All in all, a delightful experience -- but you really have to love baccalà. I most certainly do, so I keep coming back!

Tried it again after about 2 years, I have to say that honestly I'm not crazy about it, for the cost €6 and the coat of arms I definitely expect something more. In my humble opinion, the thing that I find a bit unbalanced is the balance between the fillet, which is not bad, and the batter, which in my opinion is too thick, you can taste too much of the batter and too little of the fillet.

If you come to Rome, a stop at this historic restaurant is a must. The cod fillets are always faithful to the original recipe. The puntarelle with anchovies and garlic are excellent. The staff is also helpful and kind.

A fantastic filletteria in the center of Rome, in Largo del Librari, a historic square adjacent to Via dei Giubbonari.
The place is as spartan as it once was, but inside, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and above all, the aroma of fried cod tempts you with a taste of old-time Roman fish and chips.
The fillets are exceptional, large and crispy, not greasy. The cod is not frozen, and it offers a wonderful flavor sensation. We accompanied the fillets with a generous portion of chips and left very satisfied. The price is absolutely reasonable, and a visit is highly recommended. The staff is extremely friendly.

Immaculate Roman Tradition
The name suggests it's a restaurant specializing in Roman-style cod fillet.
You can order appetizers such as cured meats and cheeses, fried zucchini, anchovies in oil with butter to spread on bread, and more.
The menu is brief, but the place is exceptional. I haven't been here in a while; everything has remained the same.

I ordered the famous Filetti a la Bacala to go. If you go to Rome, you should definitely visit this place and order the Filetti; it's amazing and super convenient to take with you and eat while strolling around Rome. The flavor is incredible, the outside is so crispy, and the fish is so tender. I thought it would be very salty, but it isn't; it's cooked just right 🤩 A Filetti cost me €6 😌 The place itself is quite outdated and not very welcoming, but the food is good ☺️

A typical restaurant with unique dishes. I've been there twice in 15 days. It's worth a try.
