Checchino Dal 1887 In Roma

As tourists this restaurant felt like a more authentic Italian dining experience compared to many of the restraints we dined at. The food was great and the service felt very genuine.

We spontaneously went there for lunch and were thrilled – the culinary highlight of our Rome trip and a world away from the usual touristy atmosphere. The Quinto Quarto antipasti were superb, as were the main courses. The homemade ice cream with candied fruit pieces was divine. Our host was extremely accommodating, and all the staff were very friendly and attentive. The eclectic music selection enhanced the feeling of having stepped into another, magical world – it's also available as a playlist on Spotify, by the way.

A special place with authentic Roman food; allergies were carefully considered. Thank you for the lovely evening!

Upon walking into checcino you feel that this place is something special. The staff is warm and welcoming upon arrival. Not only that but what makes it truly unique is that it's multiple generations of family welcoming you. We had a smaller meal while there just a couple antipastas and a first for each of us with some wine. The food delicious, and felt like love was put into it. My fiancee had the checcino 1887 lasagna and I had the tonnarelli with oxtail sauce. We had an excellent conversation with Simone (6th generation) about history of the restaurant, the changing landscape of dinning, and what that means going forward. He was kind enough to show us the wine cellular as well which is packed with so much history itself and made my jaw drop in amazement. I can not speak highly enough of checcino dal 1887, if you truly want to enjoy the classic atmosphere of Italian cooking/eating check them out. We will make this a staple of our trips to come. Thank you to everyone that made this dinner possible, and carrying on a truly special tradition.

It was an unexpected experience we had in a special birthday night. They were so careful with the food, and more for me because I have a sensitive gluten condition, they have gluten free options with pasta and it was very exquisite! The recommendations with every was beyond that our expectations! Totally great full with Simone that make us a wonderful night… We are totally super happy. Is super recommend traditional family business!

Discovered by chance while searching for "Space Invaders". The service was perfect and I enjoyed the "wine ceremony". The meal was delicious. I had a very pleasant time together.

Traditional Roman cuisine of the highest quality! I tasted recipes from what was once considered "cucina povera" (poor cuisine), which now deserves even greater recognition! Delicious dishes, impeccable service, and fascinating stories about the history of the restaurant and the Testaccio neighborhood. Recommended for those seeking authenticity off the beaten path!
