03/05/2025: Tasty Takeaway with a View – A Perfect Città Alta Moment While wandering the winding streets of Bergamo’s Città Alta, I stumbled upon Piadella—a small gem serving up freshly made piadine packed with regional flavours. I picked up a few to go and made my way to a quiet bench by the Lavatoio di Via Lupo, a beautifully preserved 19th-century washhouse, to enjoy them. It turned out to be one of the most memorable meals of my trip. I tried three piadine: • LEGGERA: Roast turkey breast, creamy fiordilatte from the Sorrento peninsula, and a pistachio spread that was both delicate and indulgent. • DELIZIOSA: Trentino I.G.P. speck paired with soft, melty Brie—simple, but deeply satisfying. • BRILLA: Roman porchetta with more of that lush fiordilatte and a tangy-sweet beer mousse that brought it all together in a truly unique way. Each piadina was generously filled, beautifully balanced, and served warm—ideal for a picnic-style bite in the sunshine. Sitting near the historic Lavatoio, surrounded by local architecture and the quiet hum of life in the piazza, I felt like I’d stepped into a Bergamasco daydream. If you’re in Città Alta, I highly recommend grabbing a few of Piadella’s inventive creations and enjoying them al fresco. It’s a simple pleasure done perfectly.
