Caffe Centrale In Macerata

We've stop for a nice refreshing pause during the market day. It has a great view to the main plaza. Food was really good. Service depends on which you have, one of the girls really helpful and with a great smile explained all and gave suggestions. The other one just points where to seat.

We found ourselves in the historic center of Macerata during a sudden thunderstorm and decided to stop for lunch at the splendid Caffè Centrale, located under the loggia of the Town Hall. A welcoming place, with friendly and prompt service, we were treated to excellent dishes.

Aperitifs for everyone, beautifully prepared with a variety of food pairings. I personally found the platter of local cured meats and cheeses excellent (when they bring them, they explain what they've brought you. WELL DONE). The location in the piazza is always charming. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and a special mention goes to the bartender, who serves an excellent Moscow Mule.

Beautiful location on the central square of the tower. The clock carousel is on display at 12 and 6 p.m. Anyway, the staff were very kind; we stopped for lunch. The service was excellent, and the lunch itself...

We went for a drink at this place. The guy who served us, Angelo, was very professional, kind, quick, and friendly. We didn't have any cigarettes with us, and he very kindly offered us some! The place is great, but Angelo is even better!

Right in the middle of the square, right in the middle of the action...if you like it, you'll get your money's worth! Choose inside and enjoy outside!

We had a truly wonderful time! They seated us and served us immediately, with kindness and professionalism. The young man who looked after us was not only attentive but also friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was excellent, carefully prepared and authentically flavored. Today we're founding the ERA Italy (Extensive Reading Association Italy), and yesterday Michael Lacey Freeman took me to the historic center of Macerata: a medieval university city famous for its opera. We stopped for lunch in Piazza della Libertà at the Bar Centrale. The recommended white wine was excellent: Baccius, a wine from Macerata. It's a shame it was a 2023 vintage instead of a 2024. We ordered Ascoli olives, which were disappointing: too hard and the filling dry. The gnocchi with duck ragù and duck bones were excellent (I've been told the flavor is better with the latter!). Michael instead ordered Vincisguerra, the local version of lasagna—also exceptional. We finished with espresso and Varnelli, the local aniseed liqueur. A lovely, convivial evening sitting at a table in Macerata's beautiful piazza, where I met Michael, the writer and future President of ERA Italy.
