Cafaggi In Firenze

Our first dinner in Florence was this great spot! Home cooking, great food, excellent staff, great atmosfere. 4 of us had, fried artichokes, octopus, fried calamari and shrimp, gnocchi with ragu, rabbit pappardelle and Peposa with a great bottle of Tuscan wine! Great food and staff.

Lovely family restaurant, delicious food

Ristorante Cafaggi was recommended by Agata, a local guide who is, herself, spectacular, so our expectations were high. The entire experience wet beyond meeting my expectations. From the handwritten scrap of paper on the table that said only "Ken" to the home produced menus that I'm sure change seasonally, if not more often, to the friendly explanation of dishes to three people who obviously weren't locals, to the significant amounts of delicious food stacked in to each plate, Cafaggi is a keeper. We ordered a variety of items to satisfy our curiosity. Antipasto included "boiled squid and vegetables" and prosciutto, crustini and chicken liver pate. The prosciutto could have been my meal, all on its own, it was so much and the squid was slightly warm and very tender. Next we shared deep fried artichokes and zucchini. The zucchini was crispy and salty and the artichoke was very tasty and neither were soggy not did it leave a greasy taste. The mains consisted of Osso bucco, linguini with zucchini and saffron sauce and peposo, which is beef stew in a red wine and peppercorn sauce. It was all spectacular. If you need a comfortable, homey place to eat in downtown Florence near Piazza San Lorenzo, Cafaggi is the spot. Reservations are recommended but not required. Cost per person with half a litre of house wine was 45 - 50 euros.

Preserved from the '70s, wonderful. Delicious food. There are classics but also many things you can't find elsewhere. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. A truly different place from the tourist-oriented places with identical menus.

We found it by chance while staying near the train station, and to our surprise, we found a welcoming place, friendly staff, and excellent food. Highly recommended for celiacs, too.

I returned after a year (I don't live in Florence) to Cafaggi with my young nephew and as on other occasions I found the usual pleasant atmosphere of the classic restaurant, welcoming, good as they used to say, good quality Florentine steak, exceptional fried artichokes, good service, fair prices, a pleasure.

Amazing food and wine! Really friendly staff but desert menu is quite limited and expensive for gelato (€8), I’m still going to return though!

I ended up going there three nights out of my seven-day stay in Florence. I express my heartfelt respect for the history of this restaurant, which has been operating in this location for over 100 years, its deep love for food and wine, and its undeniable skill. In the warm and homey atmosphere unique to a family-run business, I was able to truly enjoy "authentic Tuscany." The tripe had a rich flavor that showed it had been carefully simmered without any unpleasant aftertaste, and the sardine spaghetti, while having a Sicilian essence, was a dish that I was sure I would enjoy eating in this region. The fried artichokes were also something I definitely wanted to try if I had visited at this time of year. Even with just the contorno insalata, you could see how much importance they place on freshness, and I was once again reminded of the depth of Tuscan cuisine.

Nice, clean inn, with excellent food and service. Fair price.

A quant hidden gem in the heart Florence! Cafaggi is a charming family run restaurant which has managed to preserve its vintage allure. The food is phenomenal and you get the sense that you are receiving the most sincere dining experience, reminiscent of your nonnas cooking. I will be coming back here as soon as I can. Don’t fall for the tourist traps when places like this are just a street away!
