13/01/2025: The Etruscan Well of Perugia, also known as the Sorbello Well, is an extraordinary testimony to Etruscan hydraulic engineering, a masterpiece dating back to the 3rd century BC. 💧. Located in the heart of the historic center, near Piazza Danti, this ancient well represents not only a vital resource for the ancient city, but also a fascinating window on the Etruscan civilization, which founded Perugia and made it one of its main city-states .
The well is approximately 37 meters deep and has a diameter of approximately 5 meters 🌍. Its walls are made up of massive blocks of travertine, masterfully crafted and arranged in concentric circles, a technique that testifies to the great construction skill of the Etruscans. This system ensured stability and impermeability, making the well a fundamental element for the city's water supply during the most ancient eras.
Inside, a suggestive walkway allows visitors to descend to a platform that offers a close-up view of the bottom of the well, where it is still possible to observe the clear water that naturally filters from the rock 💦. The atmosphere is full of history: every stone seems to tell the story of the past of an ingenious people, capable of making the most of natural resources for their livelihood.
The Etruscan Well is not only a technical marvel, but also a symbol of the link between Perugia and its Etruscan past, an identity that is reflected in many other corners of the city 🏺. The visit is made even more fascinating by the presence of information panels and suggestive lighting that enhances the grandeur and depth of the structure.
If you are in Perugia, this place is a must-see to understand the deepest roots of the city and admire a work that combines ingenuity, history and nature in a perfect balance ✨.

08/01/2025: Let's say that the wait is often much longer than the visit itself... so avoid weekends and go early when it opens... otherwise spending time in 3 waiting rooms, one after the other, can be unnerving.
