Dumplings with coleslaw and a small shandy were very tasty

After our hike, we decided to take the path down from the waterfall to the restaurant instead of eating at the one directly above. And we made the right choice! We had a wonderful stay with fantastic food at more than fair prices. The cheese dumplings with homemade sauerkraut and tempting Kaiserschmarrn were incredibly delicious. The owner and his staff (and even the adorable dog) were simply delightful! We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back if we're ever in the area again! Thank you 🙏

The perfect place to stop for a break after a hike! Down-to-earth, welcoming, and authentic. If you want to not only see South Tyrol but truly experience it, this is the place for you. After our hikes, the Gasthaus Birkenwald has become something of a regular haunt for us, and for good reason. We've been there many times and look forward to every visit. The food is exactly what you crave after a hike: honest South Tyrolean classics, full of flavor, without any unnecessary frills. And the prices? More than fair, almost unheard of these days. But what truly makes this place special is the owner. Warm, down-to-earth, and with a dry South Tyrolean sense of humor that's instantly contagious. He simply joins you, tells stories, cracks jokes (holding his sides with laughter), and suddenly it no longer feels like a restaurant visit, but like a really great stopover with friends. And then there's that moment that says it all: a complimentary schnapps. Just like that. It's precisely this genuine, unpretentious hospitality that makes all the difference. We were traveling as a couple and each time we left feeling relaxed, satisfied, and with a smile. Thank you so much for everything.
