08/11/2024: One of the best restaurants in Massa Marittima and also in the area near Follonica is in fact only 20 minutes away. In this restaurant managed entirely by the owner Caterina you can savor the true flavors of Tuscany and enjoy an excellent, warm and comfortable environment. I highly recommend calling and booking at least 1 or two weeks in advance to be able to have an unforgettable experience.
04/11/2024: Undoubtedly the best restaurant in Tuscany! We returned to Caterina after just 1 and a half months and I must say that when we left we were sad because we knew.... that we would have to wait another few months before being able to return. Le Fate Briache for those who don't know them is a small tavern run exclusively by the owner (Caterina) in the historic center of Massa Marittima, in front of the medieval candlestick tower. Since Caterina cooks, serves and takes care of the management, it is advisable to book at least 1 month in advance in winter and 2 months in advance in summer...but remember that, since she manages everything herself, a possible cancellation could cause considerable economic damage to the owner : this is because it only has 8/10 seats and because once the place is fully booked for the chosen date, Caterina has to reject all the reservations that arrive for that day (so if you really can't go despite having booked, canceling at the last minute, have the decency to pay the owner for dinner). For the rest, what can we say? Caterina cooks only traditional local dishes or invents based on what she finds the same day in the butcher's shop next door (Maremma breed meat from Massa Marittima), the bakery opposite and the greengrocer in the walls (0 km farm directly from her field in the countryside between Massa and Follonica). I don't review the dishes because it's useless... you won't find anything so good other than the memory of your mother cooking for you on Sunday lunch. The wine comes partly from the Carrareccia farm and from the Moris Farm where Monteregio di Massa is produced (if you want to taste the best Tuscan wine, ask if he will open a bottle of "il Fonditore" for you). If you want to try, based on the season and what the greengrocer can find, some dishes that no one will be able to cook better, ask to try: basil semifreddo as an appetizer, Maremma tortelli with taleggio cream, pici with white Cinta Senese ragù, peposo, la parmigiana and undoubtedly her grandmother's cake.
