Cleanliness, kindness, and authenticity are the not-always-obvious characteristics of this small, hidden village restaurant, especially when you consider the location: a small clearing surrounded by greenery and old crotti. It has the feel of a modern mountain refuge, with a granite fireplace and large windows opening onto the distant mountains of the Pizz Forcola range. I always travel with my dogs, three mutts trained to live in restaurants, so before entering I ask if they're welcome. The POS doesn't serve any service; the staff greeted me outside with a smile. Sunday lunch is always a special day, sometimes challenging for a restaurant, especially in the midst of the epiphany. The feeling was one of harmony; everything was served with appropriate timing, even the dogs got their water. The heavy traditional recipes were refined with a very balanced cheese, butter, and garlic, not drowned in butter or overdone (the gnocchi deserved a second helping). The tagliata was outstanding, tender and tasty. What more can I say? Being under new management, there's room for growth, but the lows are very good, when there's enthusiasm. During the Christmas season, a life-size nativity scene is set up in the crotti in front of the restaurant. Mannequins represent snapshots of daily life in the early 1900s. P.S. I deliberately didn't want to refer to the old management...for better or worse, they've written their own story.
