I've been coming to Balestrate on vacation for about 20 years and have traveled almost all over Sicily, but to date I've never had better gelato and granita than these. Not only is the quality superb, but the flavors are also original with delicious combinations: Sicilian cassata, zuppa inglese, amarena brittle, sweet and salty pistachio, and various types of chocolate. Each one includes a description of its origin and the percentage of natural product used. I hope they don't change anything except the barely visible descriptions of the various flavors; they deserve more visibility. Absolutely excellent!

The best ice cream I've ever had in Balestrate! I've been trying every ice cream shop every summer for years, and this one is the best. It has so many delicious flavors, both unique and simple, but even the simplest ones are incredibly delicious.

How rarely one encounters true mastery in any art. Cavalluccio Marino Gelateria is gelato mastery. This ranks first of all gelato makers in the world. I put him on par with sushi masters in Japan. I have so far tried about 8 flavors, and each one is pure artistry. This is proof that high density tourist areas are not the places to find the very best gelato. After a while those kinds of places decline, because they can sell volumes, even when they are mediocre. They probably become mediocre because of volume. By contrast, this is a place worth traveling to, that preserves a way of doing natural gelato, for no reason at all, besides tradition, family reputation, and expression of genuine genius. I consider it a major life experience, an an honor to have eaten gelato here.
