When Milan is moving fast and winter is doing what winter does (dreary and cold), Stelvio delivers the kind of big, satisfying Alpine Italy inspired comfort food you actually want. We went for a late-ish lunch (2:30) and the room was quiet, mostly locals, in a clean, bright, airy space that reads modern and a little fancy. Yes, the orecchia d’elefante schnitzel is the headliner—and it’s absurdly huge (it took up half our two-top on its own cutting board). But here’s the detail that matters: the waiter told us they prepare each “ear” to order and use a special press so the meat stays evenly thick. The result is perfectly thin, evenly crisp, and well-salted breading that never turns heavy. Lemon on the side is your optional palate reset. Don’t miss the sleeper hit: polenta taragna with salsiccia—rustic, rich, mountain-style polenta with excellent sausage and tomato sauce.
