5 days in the Sassi of Matera, with another couple of friends, from September 30th to this morning, 4:10am
We ate 7 meals. We went to this restaurant on Thursday evening. I recommend booking in advance. The atmosphere is quiet, without loud music, the staff are friendly and always smiling, the food is excellent: tart, sausage with baked potatoes, orecchiette.
We had lunch à la carte. Prices are similar to other restaurants in the city, between 35 and 40 euros. Gaudianello water is served in glass bottles, not plastic.
No bottled wine...paid by card.
Recommended.

The food is delicious!! The Bruschetta was the best in the area, lasagna was delicious and even made a specialty dish for us. Must try the limoncello spritz as well.

A cover charge of €3 and a liter of plastic bottled water cost €3. This already adds to the bill. But what bothered me most was the €7 price tag for four biscuits called "scorzette" served with coffee! A clever ploy to increase the bill. We won't be back.

I was impressed by the very delicious food, which came really fast. The waiters were nice and the service was amazing. The place is quite and I liked it, because it wasn’t on the street.

First time in Matera. We stopped for lunch, drawn by the sign that read "€25 menu" for an appetizer, first course, and second course. Once seated, however, the (very kind) waitress told us that the menu is for one person only and can only be shared if we add another course. We decided to add a second course of cod Matera-style. As for the food, service, and wait times, there was nothing to complain about. Especially the first course, included on the menu (cavatelli with creamed fava beans and bacon) and the cod Matera-style were truly delicious. The only downside is the lack of transparency in the menu: the €25 doesn't include a €3 cover charge or drinks (obviously). Furthermore, ordering a second course means spending at least €15 and up. In our case, the cod costing €18 and the €3 cover charge make it clear that the restaurant's goal is to get customers to leave €30 each. Objectively, the price per person isn't exactly typical of a trattoria. Unfortunately, we've noticed that this bad practice has become widespread from central Italy southward.
The bill was €62, which translates to €60 in cash.
For those who don't overlook bad practices... if there are two of you, order two menus; at least you'll be full enough when you leave the table.
