Antica Osteria da Tonino In Napoli

A historic Neapolitan osteria, the food is average, but the service is unfortunately terrible. Despite their good intentions, the waiters struggle to understand requests. The management should train them better. They often made mistakes with orders, and even when it came to choosing the wine, it took a while to get a bottle. The atmosphere is cramped and very warm. The quality/price ratio remains good.

Miraculously, we found room for two on a Saturday evening, as the restaurant only has a limited seating. Everything was excellent, both first and second courses. We ordered two different types of gnocchi: in the pan of the ones with Neapolitan ragù, we were able to mop up the sauce with a little bread, so much so. The second course (sausage with broccoli rabe) was served in a jar. The only flaw, but it's a matter of personal preference, was that the sausage wasn't seasoned with pepper or fennel and was a bit bland compared to the rest. The service was really quick. Highly recommended.

I've been twice in 15 days. Everything was good. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, however, the service is DISGRACING. Because there are some young foreigners who don't understand what the diners are saying, ordering, asking for... they're FULL of goodwill, and it's not their fault if they're put in the dining room when they don't even understand what's being asked... so in the end, it's all one big, embarrassing mess that makes the place slide to the bottom of the list of places to visit. We asked for dishes and they didn't arrive, a wine that practically arrived wrong, then they told us it wasn't available when the wine shelves were full of this type of wine. We asked for a plate of pasta and potatoes without provola and one with, and the guys didn't know which was which... it was truly embarrassing... and it's not the fault of the guys who really try hard, but of those who hire them and train them...

We ate well: good parmigiana, good Genoese lasagna, just average canelloni, good pasta with potatoes and provola cheese. Check the bill carefully at the end.

The best Genoese I've ever eaten. My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant for the first time. We ordered parmigiana and a portion of meatballs with ragù (excellent), gnocco alla sorrentina, and an exceptional lasagna alla genovese. The attentive service was a wonderful discovery. We'll be back!

We returned to Tonino's as usual and were, as always, satisfied. Their parmigiana is highly recommended, but the dish that blew us away was the lasagna alla genovese. I had never tried this recipe before and was blown away by the flavor of their genovese and the creaminess of the dish. The service is always impeccable, as is tradition. Kudos to the guys.

I returned after many years and it was a thrill to feel at home again, just like back then, and to have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Tonino's grandson. The restaurant has been perfectly renovated while still maintaining that homey feel, the evening atmosphere is made perfect by the background music, and the food is as good as ever, the same authentic flavor with some excellent new recipes like the lasagna alla genovese. The attentive service, led by Antonio, who has inherited the passion of his grandfather and father, and the slightly higher prices today reflect the high-quality restaurant they have always been, finally make Osteria da Tonino the place it has always deserved. Deeply disappointed by yesterday's experience, I won't focus on the quality, even though it's not the same as in previous years. The products are reheated and even very bland (sausage and broccoli rabe) and the service, as they remain fairly standard, but after 20 years of coming to this restaurant every year from Rome, I've found huge differences, and unfortunately, not better. There's a huge difference in the menu and in the prices, which have gone up significantly. If they were "fair," it would be a pleasure. But unfortunately, I found a difference in the portions, which were significantly smaller. I was astonished by the "sausage and broccoli rabe," served in a glass container, where in Rome we're served tiramisu... the sausage is sliced ​​into rounds, and honestly, I couldn't tell if it was a whole sausage or not! And that's already serious. 8 sausage slices... Everything changed in a short time, because last December, although there was a clear "renovation," the quantities, quality, and prices were the same, or at least FAIR. This time, regrettably, they were absolutely not!
