Antica Osteria Da Giovanni In Roma

07/04/2024: I saw this restaurant on YouTube recommended by friends of Baciami Ancora, I wanted to try it. Arriving on foot, the entrance has a nice rustic sign "TRATTORIA ROMANA" I immediately asked and he told me that there was only room for two inside, a very welcoming place, everything in order, classic wooden trattoria tables set with placemats of paper, with menus already on each seat, traditional trattoria glasses of water and wine. We sit down and I ask for the bathroom, small, very clean, fragrant and well ventilated, all available. At the table I look at the menu and find a menu on a clearly laid out A4 brochure, from starters to drinks. The lady arrives and very kindly explains to us how the menu for the first courses works, I'll start by saying I went for "La Carbonara", she explained to us that the first courses on the menu are portions of 200g of pasta, you can opt for 150g or take the maxi portion of 300g. we took 150g portions of one carbonara and one amatriciana. He serves us water in a beautiful bottle, and finally the first courses arrive, abundant dishes, well prepared, the amatriciana at the first taste, you can immediately taste the pieces of bacon between crunchy and soft, the tomato is excellent, not too acidic to leaving a bitter taste, the pecorino cheese is good for sure but not pecorino romano, still excellent. For the carbonara, the creaminess and flavor were also excellent, the egg couldn't be felt, the cream blended well between the pecorino and the egg, the striped bacon was very crunchy. Personally I would have cooked the pasta 1 or 2 minutes longer, I would have added a few more pieces of bacon to the carbonara, just subjective guesses We had two glasses of wine, very good, full-bodied like Montepulciano or Rosso Conero. The lady came back and offered us some second courses or homemade desserts, but we were full. Well for these two abundant but truly succulent and well-made dishes we paid €30 for two, the place is highly recommended, the carbonara Top, not least the amatriciana. I will definitely return if I'm in Rome.

05/04/2024: Small but characteristic place, welcoming and clean. The guys are very kind and helpful, the food... an explosion of flavors and a reward for the palate!! Everything was really excellent, lots of seasoning and maybe even too abundant, after all it's their trademark! A fantastic experience that I will definitely repeat.
