Second evening in Mantua, second dinner, and second good experience. Two appetizers: stewed snails and artichoke tart. Two first courses: risotto alla pilota and bigoli al torchio. A second course of... fried frogs, since the restaurant has them in its name. Half a liter of red wine and water. All very good.

A very positive experience, the fried gnocco with cured meats was special, and it still smells on my fingers...
I never want to forget the handmade agnoli in brodo... And then the poetry continued in an intimate location, yet a Mantuan osteria through and through.
It's up to you to continue...

This restaurant, known thanks to a local Mantuan, is located downtown on a quiet, busy street. A simple but welcoming place, with young, professional staff. Standard dishes include riso alla pilota, pumpkin tortelli with butter and sage, and bigoli with stewed horse meat. Excellent flavors, even the kids loved them. For the main course, we tried fried frogs with fried vegetables (a plate contains about ten), a baked terracotta dish of artichokes, potatoes, and onions, and finally, stewed horse meat with polenta. For dessert, which wasn't on the menu, we tried their grape sauce with zabaglione, followed by sbrisolona with zabaglione and chocolate salami with cream. The price was reasonable, including a bottle of red wine.

A small, family-run place, I imagine, with exquisite food and very friendly service.
The pumpkin gnocchi with mushrooms and the grilled meat were delicious. I don't know if it was because it was so good or because we were so hungry, but we ate in no time. And the food always arrived promptly, without any waiting.

Lovely restaurant, the dishes are light on flavour... good, but could use a little more flavour! The service is good! If you're driving, it's not easy to find parking near the restaurant!

A quaint osteria with young, welcoming, and helpful staff and excellent food. We went for dinner on our first night in town and enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked for the following evening. Highly recommended.
