Altanella In Venezia

A beautiful location, simple yet pleasant, with a partial view of St. Mark's Basin. Away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy destinations, it's a great place to spend a lovely evening with friends or a romantic dinner. Recommended.

A true Venetian gem. Altanella combines a gracious, old-world welcome with a refined yet unpretentious cuisine that captures the essence of the lagoon. The dining room, adorned with mid-century works by Venetian painters, exudes understated elegance. A place for those who appreciate authenticity, heritage, and perfectly executed simplicity.

What a delightful night we had at Trattoria Altanella! Alessandro was a wonderful server and told us his family has owned the restaurant for 5 generations. We had an incredible Spaghetti a le Vongole, fried cod, gnocchi, and scallops. Can’t recommend this place enough and would love to visit again some day. Absolutely sublime.

Two of the four appetizers ordered were truly exceptional. Cuttlefish in ink with white polenta was equally as good. Pleasant service and a quaint atmosphere. Reasonable bill.

A fifth-generation family-run trattoria on the Giudecca. Today, the kitchen is in the hands of Alice, a young and excellent chef who knows how to combine tradition with a touch of modernity to excite the palate. She is supported by her husband, Alessandro, who also happens to be a chef. And then there are her uncles. Excellent ingredients, homemade pasta and bread, and delicious desserts. The location is on a rooftop terrace overlooking the water. Highly recommended.

This trattoria is a hidden gem, tucked away on a narrow street — and I’m so glad we followed the recommendation and came here. The place is cozy and full of character, with an authentic bar counter and a wonderful view of a quiet canal away from the crowds. The staff are exceptionally warm, attentive, and professional — their hospitality and charisma make the whole experience unforgettable, and tipping here truly feels like a heartfelt thank-you. The food and local wine were outstanding. I tried the Venetian specialty Bigoli di Bassano alla salsa di acciughe, while my husband had Gnocchi di patate fatti in casa con carciofi e mazzancolle — both dishes were excellent and gave us a deeper appreciation of Venetian cuisine. A place full of charm that we would happily return to again and again.
