Trattoria all'Alpino is not just any trattoria, but a haven for an Italian culinary tradition shared by three generations of Zambons.
Gnocchi are the heart of a business that bustles from Thursday to Sunday, serving weekend diners a dish so "simple" that it's found in many Italian regional traditions, even reaching as far as China. Perhaps because it's a dish capable of evoking memories of home, of Saturdays spent with a grandmother kneading and shaping mountains of gnocchi, inventing timed challenges with older siblings.
At Alpino, every gnocchi embodies the inimitable wisdom of a recipe passed down from mother to daughter and grandmother to granddaughter. A simple gesture that resembles a snap of the fingers on the tip of a fork, a fingerprint curling into the perfect specimen: hollow on the back, ridged on the surface, to hold each of the six sauces it's served with, from butter and sage to regular ragù, duck and venison, and the ever-present goulash.
Each potato is chosen for its precise characteristics, each egg corresponds to a chicken that could be named. Even the flour is the result of research and knowledge of the mill it comes from, like every other ingredient used in the kitchen, respecting seasonality and practically zero-mile availability.
I was fortunate enough to spend a few days with this family, who opened their doors and arms to me with unusual affection, and I was able to understand something more about the mountains and their inhabitants, and how every roughness is ready to explode in a powerful laugh, a bit like ice when it breaks off in blocks from the peaks in spring to become fresh water.
I loved everything here: the frankness, immune to the pandering of mass tourism; the ability to manage logistics for significant numbers within a family-run establishment that occasionally pushes under pressure, like a family; the regulars who come from all over the world for a glass of Rabosello—those who tell you their expat stories and those who have decided to retire in the mountains—and those over seventy on bicycles heading to the Borcola Pass, who stop every year for a meal to let people know they're still here (and in great shape).
Amid these mountains that still stir the emotions of two wars that sacrificed the "best of youth" in the trenches of the First World War and in the Nazi-Fascist reprisals of the Second, Trattoria l'Alpino in Posina is a stopover steeped in history and a gateway to a story of local flavors and family recipes passed down from generation to generation.

We stayed at Alpino for 3 days, an experience I sincerely recommend to everyone.
Reading some of the negative reviews, I realize that perhaps you haven't quite grasped the place you're in.
A family atmosphere that works tirelessly toward one mission: to make gnocchi something unique.
The gnocchi, pasta, and canederli are all handmade...yes, handmade. From very early in the morning, the kitchen comes to life with the sound of thumbs pounding under the forks, because the gnocchi must have the tines facing up, but also the thumb cup, because only then can they accommodate the myriad sauces.
If you think the welcome isn't "friendly," you're missing the point...it's genuine, authentic, and fun...if you want a little kudos, go to Cracco's, where you're greeted with hearty pats on the back and hearty laughter.
If you want quality, tradition, and sincerity, this is it. You come in as a customer and leave as a relative. The negative reviews are truly incomprehensible (a bad night can happen, but I honestly don't think they're truthful or honest).
So if you're ever in the area, stop by and comment below.
Long live the dumpling, long live the Alpino ❤️

The location is the best and on the way to the starting point of Strada della 52 Gallerie, the food has authentic local flavors and the staff is incredibly helpful. The rooms took me back to my grandmother's time, everything is in its place and clean, and you also have your peace - so far from technology and so close to nature. Thank you for the genuine homeliness.

Historic trattoria, very good gnocchi, and most of the sauces are noteworthy, despite their heavy sauces.
The staff is friendly and quick with their service.
The price is fair for the food, in my opinion.
I should note that during my visit, the air conditioning wasn't on, but the temperature inside the restaurant was still acceptable.

Trattoria specializing in classic gnocchi served with a choice of eight sauces, all of which you can choose from. Everything was delicious, and the staff, including the owner, were very friendly and helpful. The prices were absolutely fair and reasonable.

Went for lunch with relatives who had praised this place so much.
To get there we drove for over an hour.
We found an excellent restoration, very clean bathrooms, much more space for tables than before.
The famous gnocchi are very good, offered with various sauces.
The only flaw, the exorbitant cost per person. 28 euros per person just to eat gnocchi seems really exaggerated to me, without any appetizer, second course or side dish, really too much.
The cost of the recent renovation cannot fall on the customer.
Too bad, I don't think we'll return.
