Nothing to complain about, the staff is super attentive and kind.
The refuge is privately run, and let's just say it shows compared to other refuges run by the CAI. The prices are unreasonable for the quality of service offered. The rooms are very dated, with noisy beds and doors, and a slightly pungent smell in the common areas. The food is unremarkable. Dinner is plentiful but of very poor quality. In fact, the quality is simply not there. However, the problem is that a van could easily drive to this place to deliver the produce. The picnic sandwiches were inedible. We must have thrown half of them away. What a shame.

Delicious food and fast, courteous service. I wasn't immediately convinced because I saw less than stellar reviews: the polenta was among the best I've ever had, with bowls of delicious cream and meat. EVERYONE in the dining room was pleasantly surprised by the flavors! I'll be back as soon as possible!

I found the atmosphere to be family-friendly. The food was excellent. After lunch, given the rain, the owners let us stay at the table for a while, allowing us to spend time together. The place is also great for those who aren't keen on hiking: the source of the Po River is just a 5-minute walk away. Lake Fiorenza is just 25 minutes away. In short, it has all the ingredients for a relaxing day. Remember to bring CASH to pay, as there's often no internet connection.

We had lunch at the refuge today, making a quick reservation for 1:30 PM, right after getting off the shuttle and ready for the hike to Lake Fiorenza. On our way back from the hike, we opted for two menus (antipasto + polenta) and were extremely satisfied. The torta della nonna, which we had for dessert, was delicious, and the Val Varaita herb liqueur was also delicious.
If we return to Pian del Re, we will definitely dine with you again.
