I visited this restaurant a few Sundays ago, and I must say I wasn't even familiar with the area, even though I live in the province.
Upon our arrival, the waiter immediately brought us tons of sodas. After a few minutes, our order was taken, and everything was served promptly. The dishes were plentiful and varied, with plenty of appetizers, three first courses, and, if I'm not mistaken, two second courses.
The place is very welcoming.
One flaw is the lack of a sea view; given that it's located in a seaside town, I would have expected a much wider view.
Otherwise, I was very satisfied.
For those who want to explore tourist areas like the Valley of the Temples, this place is a short drive away.

A simple yet welcoming restaurant with a rustic style. The staff isn't particularly friendly, but they're happy to take reservations over the phone.
The place is small and doesn't have air conditioning, so reservations are recommended and it's best to avoid lunchtime during the summer.
The food is tasty and the portions are generous.
The prices are quite competitive.

...if you want to experience a real local osteria, you have to go here...right next to one of the housing estates of Agrigento is this simple but charismatic fish restaurant...between 8:30 and 10 p.m. the restaurant fills up...everyone eats the same 4-course menu...each course 3 to 4 different dishes (see menu and photos) with as much wine as you want, water, limoncello...⁹ also black sauces in the meal...for us Germans it takes some getting used to...but

Having left Abruzzo with some experience in epic meals (even if they were meat-based), I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this restaurant for dinner. I was overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of the food served. Super-fresh fish, cooked using authentic recipes, and in such quantities that it's impossible to leave feeling hungry. Super-fast service, friendly staff, and an authentic atmosphere. If you're in Porto Empedocle, definitely go there.

Great place! We had a wonderful evening with the family. While visiting Porto Empedocle, we stumbled upon this seafood restaurant, a fun and characteristic local spot. What can I say? A fixed menu, with appetizers, first courses, delicious and fresh grilled fish (exceptional sea bass), and a final fried dish. Everything was delicious, plentiful, and typical of the area. Bottom line: Il Capitano is tops!

No frills or embellished tablecloths... Just excellent food. Getting up without feeling full is impossible.
At the end of dinner, I even asked for a recipe.
